I've been doing a lot of reading on the LOST forums lately and have read so much great info, but then I forget it and can't find it again! It would be awesome if we could get a Wiki running so that anyone can add relevant info in an organized fashion. I often look up off roading info in Wikipedia but it's not nearly as detailed as the information members of LOST have. Also, Wikipedia doesn't have any KJ specific info. You guys think this is a good idea and that it could work?

I've tried to promote the idea of a wiki as well, using it like we sorta try to use sticky threads, for things like howtos, frequently asked questions, and other unchanging information. Problem is, we'd need a lot more access control, since wikis are a magnet for vandalism - maybe make it so you need to be a member for X months or have Y number of posts before you can edit the wiki or something. Or even just have it be an invite-only wiki, where anyone can read it, but only a short list of people can edit/post.

I implemented a wiki for a client company. There is a number of wiki software options but for the product we used (can't remember the name off the top of my head) it was no problem to limit edit functions to certain people.

Guys, I set one up last night, MediaWiki, IMHO the best Wiki, and started adding some content. Just let me wait until tonight to give you the link. Right now it's sitting on my home connection at 2Mbps upload speed. I don't know how much traffic my connection can handle yet and really can't afford to have it go down today as I have a VoIP business phone on it. Enjoy the suspense :)

I can host some content on my site if you like ... no worries if it goes down for me ... let me know if you'd like for me to host a bit.

Thanks for the offer bbo, but I just got MediaWiki running on my hosted site that I'm less concerned about. If I have any connection problems, trust me, I'll be sure to let you know

I've set up media wiki before, too, and it really is the best software for wiki. If wikipedia uses it, it's gotta be good, right?

Se7enLC, I definately agree. I've set up TikiWiki and PHPWiki before and didn't like them nearly as much. MediaWiki was made for Wikipedia, which just so happens to be the best single source of information in the world

Try these steps to fix the error
Try another URL - The web site that you have attempted to visit: http://www.fuzzymuzzle.com/kjwiki is categorized as

Anyone can edit, just go to the page and click the edit tab on the top of the page.

SethX9,

Anyone can edit the wiki right now, registered or not.

Jeger,

It's probably because the largest section of my website contains Xbox content. A trick to get around this is to click Start -> Run, type cmd, type ping fuzzymuzzle.com, copy the IP address that comes up, and replace fuzzymuzzle.com in the wiki URL with the IP. Then just bookmark the page in your browser.

Ok, all the warnings were figured out and everything is up and running. Follow the directions below. Refrain from using the old wiki. I'll set the old wiki's home page to redirect to the new, just make sure you don't accidentally go to the old one using your browser's history. I've merged the two changes that were made on the old one.

Well, I promised the new server for tonight, so here it is:

fuzzymuzzle.net/kjwiki

Note the lack or www. and the .net at the end. This should solve your problem Jeger, as the Wiki is now on a different server. All of the edits to the original have been imported. Let me know if there are any problems. Gonna try to get some sleep now....

Ok, sorry to do this to you again guys, but I moved back to the old shared server. After a long time thinking about it I decided that this was the best choice. On a shared server I don't have to worry about power outages, system crashes, ISP outages, bandwidth overages, administration, corruption, and viruses. All of the pages should be transferred over fine; if you find something that wasn't, let me know and I'll retransfer it. Unfortunately, as I essentially copied and pasted all of the articles none of the edit history or user accounts were transferred. This was because a downgrade from MySQL 5 to MySQL 4 just wasn't possible. In my opinion the content is what really matters anyways. You can find the new wiki at the old location, www.fuzzymuzzle.com/kjwiki
