| Post subject: | Hitch Ball Height / Drop? |
What's a typical height for a hitch ball to be off the ground? I know the right thing to do is measure the trailer and just get a drop mount for that height, but I don't own a trailer - I just want to have a ball mount in case I need to tow one, i figure I should get one that is about the right height (and comes out far enough to clear the spare). Suggestions on a wiring harness? I won't need more than the simple 4-pin that's around $30 from etrailer. Is it cheaper anyplace else? |

I purchased a simple ball-mount for my receiver at Wal-mart, don't know what kind of drop it has but I can check. As for the wiring harness, I got one at U-haul when I was going to pull a trailer - $20 installed and it has LEDs in the connector to show that everything is OK. When I'm not using it I just flip it up into the cargo area (it comes out from under the bottom trim for teh swing gate). |

Do you have a rear tire mounted? I do (& no lift yet) and I need a 3.5" drop to get it connected w/o removing the tire. I tow a 2000# pop-up, and I'd rather have a no-drop to make the colman level. My boat trailer could use a 1 or 1.5" drop to be level All of them are the 9". I hear that there is an 11" (a thread on LOST a few months ago i think) from Reese that will miss the stock spare tire... |

The whole thing is about 13-14". I've got a 2.5" lift. With the newer MTR I have to take the wheel off, with the worn ones or the stock tires, no problem. The trailer is a 16" travel trailer a hair under 2000lbs empty. |
