Post subject:  securing subwoofer ???

what did you guys do to secure your subs in your cargo area? I have a kicker l5 10" that is in a fairly compact sealed box and don't want it to get stolen. I'm in college and I know there are theiving sensored word eyeballing my setup.... I want it to be easily portable so i can use all of my cargo area for trips though.... do i bolt it down or chain it down or hide it or what? my best idea of the moment is to put it in a suitcase so people cant see it...i need help.

thanks,

garrett

Haha, in a suit case? I usually pull the cover over it, but I do have a big MTX sticker on my window. I may need to take that off since I am going away to college this fall. I know my box is to big to come out a window so i just set the alarm and if I hear the horn going off I run with a machete and hit whoever it is in the shoulder with it. They cannot move from the pain and I call the cops.

If they can see it and decide they want it they will get it somehow. Get the cargo security cover. Out of sight Out of mind.

If you are worried about someone that already knows about. I wish you luck. You better bolt it down. Maybe you can take one of the little cargo tie downs out and use that location for an anchor. The better you have it attached the more damage they will do trying to get it out.

Hiding it in a suitcase is a great idea. I'll take it one step further and suggest something that would possibly deter thieves more. How about under a CostCo size box of feminine hygiene products (no offence to any of the ladies in the group - just trying to think of something that people wouldn't steal!)

HAHA Flying J!! touche!

Yeah just bolt it down man. Like you said you have an alarm and you can here it when it goes off. So if you have it secured really well you can "intervene" if you have to cause they can't just lift it right outta there.

I have always been against audio stickers on my vehicles cause to me they are like "steal me" stickers advertising what you are holding inside your ride.

I gave my friend here the same advice with his kj. Bolt down his subs so no one would steal them. He had 2 15"Rockford Fosgate p315d2's stage 3's with a security cover and with them bolted. I guess some one had been scoping him out for some time they smashed all of his door windows and the back one and stole his head unit as well as the speakers oh and his smokes..he was pissed about the smokes.....I should of took pictures. (would of that been wrong?) And the sensored word wore gloves no prints....felt bad for him.

what i did is invest in an alarm.
Python 700 i think... with shock sensors, and i added a proximity sensor, so if you step too close it will chirp... if you touch it, it will sound the alarm... and it pages me when the alarm goes off... i figure its the best i can do on a college student budget...

It is like someone else said, if they want it they are going to get it. I got the security cover, deep tint and I never keep it up a few miles before I get home. it is always way low, but then I get to park mine in the garage so that adds a bit of security.

I used 3M Velcro, stapled it to the box (Kicker) and used banana plugs so it could be removed when I go camping, also i have the cargo cover, and no "rob me stickers".

.

Banana plugs For The Win!

And I'll second the "no rob me stickers".

Unless you drive a show vehicle that is instantly recognizable you should avoid stickers that tell people what kind of expensive toys you have in your car. Its like a menu for thieves while they shop in the parking lot.

get the biggest and heaviest box possible....in that case if the thief dares taking your box, he'll break his back and put the box back!!!

I have a 10" sub in an Obcon box in my cargo area. I don't have steal me stickers either... and this is what I do when I park it someplace "unsafe". I have quick release wires and I simply remove it, throw it over the back seat and shove it between the back of the passengers seat and the rear seat. Then I throw a sweatshirt, coat, etc over it. At first glance, it looks as though the sub has already been taken out or stolen. I have a removable faceplate to my headunit, so that helps too.

That would be "billforde"

He installed an amp and two 3-way speakers into it.
