| Post subject: | Bad IAC Motor??? |
Hi All, Been having problems with my KJ overheating whenever I turned the AC on. Thought it was the compressor clutch, but had it at the dealer for an alignment and they took a quick look at it and said they think its the IAC motor causing the problem. Any idea what and where the IAC Motor is? They said it helps regulate the load when the AC is on. Thanks in advance, DonC |

IAC stands for Idle Air Control,it adjusts your idle speed only to compensate for a load(ie turning wheel or a/c on at idle).Could not see how it could have any effect on cooling.Check to make sure the fan turns on when at idle if not that could be the fault(with the a/c on). |

The car overheats and speed, not just at idle. 5-10 mins after AC is turned the temp gauge shoots up, no matter what speed. Turn the AC off and temp drops back down to normal within a minute or 2. Gona check for codes, would think the IAC would spit out a code if its havin probs. I'll check the fan, but pretty sure it goes on. Thanks, DonC |

I'll check the fan, but pretty sure it goes on. Thanks, DonC Check for mud!! spray the radiator out really good. It doesnt matter if the fan is on or not at hw speeds, it shouldnt overheat. |

Your condensor is sitting directly in front of your radiator. WHen the AC is on the condensor is hot and the radiator can't cool as effectively but it should still be able to keep up fine. I'd suspect, as above, dirty radiator or an internal issue like a partially plugged radiator, possibly a bad thermostat, etc. First thing I'd do I think is flush the cooling system and change the t-stat. Oh also make sure your radiator fan is working! I can't see how the idle control could have anything to do with overheating?? Do you have any of the front fascia openings blocked by anything? |

that sounds like the problem we had with a YJ it was mud in the radiator not the fins but in side the radiator its self we hosed it out refilled and to my knowlage it still runs today those type of over heating problems can be very hard to find i would start with the easy and go up from there |

How te heck do you get mud inside the radiator I have 2 lights mounted on the bumper. The passenger side one doesn't block any of the radiator "fins" and the drivers side only covers a small portion in the corner. A while ago, the AC compressor sounded like it had marbles in it, only when the AC was on. I've had it disconected for a while now so not sure if it is still making that noise. Thats kinda why I was thinking it was the compressor or compresor clutch. I'll also look into changing the T-stat. Thanks for all the input, DonC |

Well... No codes on the comp and the fan comes on normally. Also, can see light through the radiator, so thinkin thats not the problem. Guess I'll try the t-stat next. DonC |
