the DOT cannot outlaw the sale of them ... what is, and has been the case if you read the fine print, is that they are not guaranteed for on-road use. Typically on the box it will state something like "for off-road use only" |

But then why the stop shipment order? Believe me-my buddy is in the biz to make money and he is not going to b.s. me about something when it means a "lost"sale. I can't fathom why someone in the 'ups and extras' auto/truck business would make this up. The 'unavailability' is coming from somewhere. |

Sounds fishy to me....I'd give a call to your local VDOT facility and see what they know or if they can lead you in the right direction. |

MY Jeep is still titled in Virginia, but I'm living just over the border in TN. VA has some of the strictest vehicle laws out there. I would say just go ahead and do it, and hope you don't get a ticket (I think they give you 48 hours to swap back, not sure though). You may have to order them from eBay or somewhere online. Piece of cake to swap out, 3 bulb sockets, a pin and a wiring plug. You will need a long torx driver (a manual one, or a really long extension on a drill) to reach the torx bolts on the driver's side. I believe they are T25. Should take you all of 5 minutes to switch them out. |

Actually these guys would be the better ones to talk to. They are more than likely the ones who put the stop order in place. US Dept. of Transportation The company may be putting the DOT/SAE stamp on them illegally and they are investigating it. |

US Dept. of Transportation The company may be putting the DOT/SAE stamp on them illegally and they are investigating it. That sounds like the most likely scenario ... I do know the DOT stamp is pretty specific ... you are probably more likely to buy a pesticide ridden piece of fruit stamped "organic" than you are to get a non-DOT approved piece of safety equipment stamped DOT approved. |

I wouldn't go with the aftermarket tail lights. I went through 2 broken sets delivered to me, and then nothing but problems. They were really junk. Looked good on Ebay though. I'm thinking of getting a set of the new tail lights that are a little darker red. I think they look a little better than the old ones. Anyone know if they changed anything besides the color? |
