| Post subject: | Post Synthetic Oil questions |
I flipped over to synthetic oil yesterday, Mobil 1, I did the change (5 quarts), buttoned every thing up, then started the car and drove around to warm it up. I then checked the dip stick and the oil was not in the middle of the cross hatched section on the dip stick ( as it was with the Castrol) but it lies at the bottom of this section, almost in the 'add oil" section. I was just wondering if any one else noticed this when they changed to synthetic oil. |

Changing to syn shouldnt have anything to do with that. 5 quarts of oil is 5 quarts of oil. Maybe it was parked on a slight incline or something? When I put 5 quarts and a filter in mine it goes alittle over full. |

Are you even sure they used syn? There are oils that people say are better than others, and they are better. I do not believe any syn oil will hurt it though. |

There's synthetic blend, and full synthetic. A lot of those coupons for those quick oil change places will claim to use synthetic when the reality is that is just a synthetic blend. It's not nearly as good as full synthetic, but they want you to think so. |

Did you fill oil up in your oil filter??? Maybe the oil drained until it filled the oil filter, thus the loss of oil? |

I always change my oil filter when I change the oil. Never fill it up before putting it in either. I also buy my oil at walmat, I just get the 5 quart jug of mobil one syn. Works great everytime for me so idk whats going on. |

Maybe one of the bottles was a little low on oil and wasn't a full Qt? I have found oil bottles on shelves that were not full and some that were filled to the top. (worked at an auto parts store in high school and as a Mechanic after high school, so I saw this often) |

Just FYI, once you switch to synthetic it is best to always use it from then on. It isn't reccommended to switch back and forth. |

Does the o-ring or seal on the drain bolt have to be replaced or changed each time you change oil? I'm just wondering if the KJ is anything like the nightmare o-ring problem I've had with changing the oil on my aunt's Suzuki Forenza. Since I usually have Speedee change my oil, I've never bothered to ask if the o-ring on the drain plug has to be changed, so I'm just wondering. |

Since you are not seeing it because someone else does your oil change, you Might want to grab an extra one from the parts store or dealer and have them install it during one of your oil changes for cheap peace of mind. |
