Post subject:  Weak glass??

Anybody else notice that their glass chips and cracks with every little thing the might hit it? I have had several chips filled and most recently the below crack formed. What ever caused it was not that big either. Just curious if others have experienced this. The good news is that a replacement is only gonna be like $240 total. That is for factory glass tho. I really would rather have some stronger glass put in. Any glass experts out there?

The glass isn't cheap. You bought a brick on wheels! :)

Have you noticed the angle of the windshield? It isn't very aerodynamic. Commander, Wrangler and Cherokee owners all notice the same problem... which isn't really a problem, just a characteristic of the vehicle.

Off Topic: I looked at your signature. I've been noticing a lot more guys driving around Libertys lately.

I bought mine used. I was looking through all the service and repair receipts and it had the winshield replaced at some point before 50K miles.

I got a chip dead in front of my eyes in the drivers seat. It happened when I drove out of the dealer lot after signing my papers; literally right after the rear wheels touched the road.

the front glass is weak as a wet loaf of bread. ive had to replace the windshield once from a rock that caused a chip, within a week it was cracked from top to bottom. after that i got another chip and had it filled before it got too bad.

we need a windshield that has rebarb running through it. imagine what that would look like.. can you say mad max??

I have had to replace my front windshield 2 times in the last year!!

1st time was driving down the x-way that was under construction. Semi truck spit up all the stones laying on the ground and 1 decided it would do some damage.

2nd time was at Chicago Toys for Tots parade in Chicago. The lifted Wrangler in front of me in the parade line spit up a huge stone that blew out my window. I didn't fix it until it got warm (happened in December, fixed in April). Then!!

Both times it cost $140.00 so I feel kinda lucky with the price.

Hahaha!! Yes indeed. Maybe some of the bulletproof stuff like Snoop Dogg has his ride outfitted with.

There are only a few windshield mfg co. They are all about the same. Get em replaced right away if cracked as they are a integral part of safety structural support of ur vehicle ie rollover or airbag activation. Chips should be done before the spider and spread...

Mine has a couple small chips... Actually saw them happen.
On the other hand, when someone tried to break in they slammed a brick into the rear pass. window. They hit it so hard that all 4 corners of the brick left an indent in the glass and the black channel/strip on the inside of the window that seperates the rear window from the non moving glass panel deformed about an inch into the car. But the window didn't shatter! Of course after they realized they couldn't shatter the window by smacking it, they stood back and hauled the brick through the front pass window and really messed up my interior as it bounced across my leather and dash.

I'm on my third windshield too (03 Sport). This one is chipped already too. Yup, right in front of the driver's seat. Got it filled, quick, about 20 minutes after it got dinged. Cause they tend to spread like a nasty secret...

Or how 'bout the stuff they use in schools, two layers of glass with chicken-wire in between? I remember that from the door windows in my high school, and they were small windows too - only about 4 inches wide and about 18 inches tall.

My friend cracked mine with his head....

Stopped short he didn't have his seat belt on. Was only going about 5 mph in a parking lot. I made him get out to see the damage and inspect my kj then checked his head out. He was fine except for a major head ache.

Only if you like your body in 1/2 X 1/2 squares if you get in an accident, that stuff will dice you to pieces.
