Ok, here's a new one. KJ in neutral, drive or park. A/C on or off. Driving or standing still. 90+ degree days and lots of driving/standing still w/engine running.
OK, now the noise: Real high pitched sound like a tea kettle whistling. Happens only after a long drive/standing so I'm assuming it's heat related. NOT coming from the engine bay. Sounds like it's coming from the right rear tire/exhaust system area. One suggestion was fuel tank venting. Is the vent on that side? Other suggestion was the fuel pump itself.
Any ideas? :?: :?

could it also be an exhaust leak, only showing up when the metal expands when warmed up?

Could be the fuel pump like you said. IDk if they change pitch when hot or what, ive never even heard mine? They can also get real high pitched before they go bad. How many miles you got?

The fuel vents run along the filler neck. The pump could be whinning.

are you SURE it's not from the engine bay? sometimes sounds, especially high pitches ones, are deceiving.

Sounds more like a belt or pulley letter go. Idler pulley assembly perhaps? I'm jaded on that one as I recently had a series of "incidents" with mine. But my sound was definitely coming from engine bay.

that was my first thought, but I carefully checked out the engine bay and nothing.
