Just tryin to ressurect the Maglite topic! :D
Anyway, I converted my Mini Mag AA to an LED unit and Man! is this thing bright! Batteries last alot longer too. Gonna order the kit for my C & D size Maglites as well. For under $30 it looks like a great investment in safety as well as utility use.

Where are you getting the LED kit for the full size? I have a 4-cell I'd love to turn into an LED light.

I picked up the aa size at Lowes a couple of weeks ago for $7.95. It has 3 bulbs as compared to the one mentioned here and is not adjustable.

I would love a D size one for my 6 cel.

I got that one also. It's bright but no adjustability.

I also have the 3 bulb one for my 2 AA that I use at work all the time. It is not adjustable, but that doesn't seem to bother me. I like the uniform glow better than a pointed light or a flood light w/ the middle all black. :(

I have a 6 D-cell maglite (bigger than the police ones) and just replaced the regular 9.0 volt bulb with a 7.5 volt unit from Radioshack. It burns hotter, but its also significantly brighter.

I'm not sure if they still stock the multitude of bulbs they have in store, but you should definitely be able to order it from their unabridged catalog. I really dislike that whole remodeling thing where they just put their small parts inventory that used to hang on the shelves inside those big ugly gray metal drawers to save space.

So anyways, if you have a 4 cell Mag, get a bulb rated for 4.5 volts.

A 2 cell mag probably uses those tiny bulbs though, so this trick doesnt apply to that.

The bulbs from Radioshack are about 3-4 bucks.

Now it's Radio "We're here to shove a cell phone down your throat and don't care about anything else." Shack

Complete with skull cracking edge. I was browsing through a Popular Mechanics issue one day and according to them a soldier will snap one of these off of their M16 and beat an opponent with them when they run out of ammo  Don't think I can afford $400 for a flashlight though....

In terms of brightness and intensity, light emitting diodes will never come close to high-intensity discharge lamps.

It's called "HID" for a reason. BRIGHTNESS!

I got the Mag Lite brand 3watt LED bulb at Wal-mart for the 2d mag. They also have the 3d & 4d bulbs.

Talk about bright....

This thing gives headlights a run.

Brigade Quartermasters ( www.actiongear.com ) has a MiniMag conversion with LED bulb unit and push button on/off cap for $9.99. They also carry a large assortment of Surefire, Blackhawk, Gerber, etc lights in varied configurations. Great place to deal with, I just ordered $250 worth of stuff from them today. Also, on the Surefire bit and being used as a weapon, from what I've seen and the guys I know, they would sooner reach for their M-9 Bayonet before trying to hit someone with a tactical flashlight. The Surefire ED2 Defender and similar lights are marketed toward law enforcement and LE fanatics.

I got the one at wally world but can't remember what it cost but it wasn't much. It came with a new reflector and 3 led bulb unit. Works great. I would also like them for my 4 cell "D" sized and 2 cell "C" ones.
