Spoke to Amex last night about some unrelated thingamabob. Turns out that starting Oct 1 (or 30th, I can't remember now) Amex will be instilling a "Roadside Assistance" program for Gold card members. Lockout service, dead battery jump, TOWING SERVICE, with no charge to the card holder (except parts). No matter what car you are driving.
Used to be you had to be at least 30 miles from home, new service works even if you are in your own driveway. (Well, you see, I was halfway through installing the lift and decided I needed to get it to a mechanic for professional help....) Sure sounds good. I wonder if they will pick up the tow fee if you break down while wheeling. If not, I guess you just gotta make it back to the road before calling.
