Are the horsepower/torque (18.7hp - 24.9 ft. lbs.) increases honest?

(quote from the page above...

"This is a great little SUV that owners love to modify. MagnaFlow will boost the power of the 3.7L V6 up another 18.7 horsepower and 24.9 ft.-lbs. of torque. The system features 2.5" fast-flowing mandrel-bent stainless steel tubing, a straight-through stainless steel MagnaFlow Performance Muffler and a brightly polished 3.5" stainless steel rear exit tip."

Most of the gain is from the different muffler. The factory muffler is very restrictive along with the way it's assembled. Unfortunately, the CRD uses the same exhaust from the CAT back and has to accommodate even more flow from the diesel. Muffler flanges are shoved inside the 2.5 inch exhaust pipes and welded causing a constriction on both ends. If you cut in a MagnaFlow muffler on the factory pipes and remove the constrictions, you will likely have the same results.

I assumed the 2.5" exhaust pipe was also the stock size for the 3.7L .. I changed the muffler to a Magnaflow Polished one and got some real nice rumble out of it. I can only assume my gas mileage went up (probably .3 - .5 mpg).

A lot of folks have the whole CatBack kit and are pleased with it though. I just didn't want to spend the extra $$$ for the same sized pipes and the exhaust tip that is with it.

After my lift and tires I put in a Magnaflow 12286 and it helped get some of the power back from the swap to bigger tires, better mileage and it has a great sound.

One advantage to buying the CAT back is that it's a quick , DIY assembly where everthing is designed to fit together. I have been asking around several muffler shops in the area about cutting in a free flow muffler (Magnaflow or Areo Turbine). Looking specifically for a quality, welded, stainless steel installation. Every shop wanted to do a hack & bolt together job, something I am capable of doing. Mention stainless steel and welding in the same sentence, their eyes glaze over.

I just put a dynomax muffler on and it did make a little difference.. I also cut it where it restricts to 2 1/4 so its true 2.5 and its exactly what I wanted for sound.. Its just a little louder, where you can hear the exhaust but @70 you can barley hear it.. Highly reccomend
