Post subject:  Off-roading the Liberty: got a little praise.
I spent about 5 hours Saturday on trails in SE Ohio on my bone-stock '05. There was a run of over 60 vehicles. I stayed in the 19 vehicle "novice" class in deference to the KJ's SR/A's and lack of skids. There was only one other totally stock vehicle ( a TJ) as most had at least tire upgrades. I will admit that I may have had a tad more driving experience than some of the others in this group, as you could be in it by either equipment level or driving ability.

Some of the vehicles included in the class had 33" M/T's, specifically 4 Taco's. Letting testosterone get the better of me, I vowed that the KJ was going everywhere ANY other member of this group went, no matter what.

Guess what? The KJ did it. Not once did I have to take a bypass or get the dreaded strap ( although some others did one, the other, or both at some point in the day. ) Along the way, it earned several rounds of praise. After coming out of one mud hole (with the front in the air) one of the Taco drivers said " Man, that should have been in a LIberty commercial!" The TJ owners were also grudgingly respectful, with a couple of comments about never believing that a Liberty could " twist up" like that when flexed. Making it through one rutted climb after the TJ & ZR2 S10 immediately in front me of failed and took a bypass had people applauding again.

Eddo was on the same run, but was in a different group due to his locker, lift and MT/R's. His Libby also won some respect, although the drier than usual conditions meant that most of the trails posed little challenge for the better equipped vehicles in his intermediate class. The chopped up truggy's and buggys did manage a little carnage in the advanced class.

Just some old township roads south of Columbus. Nothing spectacular.

What kind o event was this that brought out 60 vehicles for off-roading? I know township roads. They aren't THAT bad.

It was the Ohio 4x4 Novice Ride. All the mud, driving through trails that a quad can barely fit through, a drunk jeeper, and angry landowners just makes it not that great. I've done alot better wheeling before. I know nothing compares to Colorado or Moab, but still even other local rides around here where better.

I have not received the pics yet :evil:

I will post them when/if I do, but; although I gave the photographer my email addy I failed to get his to check on them.

The rails were mostly in the Tar Hollow area of Vinton/Hocking Counties. Eddo's group, as mentioned, had a drunken idiot in it and no one bothered to kick him out.

The event was part membership drive for a 4by club and partially their monthly group ride.

Wonder if the drunk was the club prez. We SE Ohioans love to elect drunks.
