I traded my TJ for a KJ when my son was born, because I thought the TJ was too small. The KJ actually worked out very well for us, carseat wise. The safest spot on any vehicle for a car seat is in the center of the back seat. You should have plenty of room there for a rear facing car seat. Also keep in mind that it's only going to be rear facing for a short time and ask yourself if it's worth it to buy a whole new vehicle just for this purpose.

Of course if you have your mind set on a new vehicle........

I've heard the new JK has plenty of space in the back for a car seat.

Will putting the seat in the center work? I've heard several people say that's not a good place.

We spoke to a fire captain, before our son was born and he told us that the center of the vehicle is the safest spot during an accident. I can see the reasoning, since if you get T-boned by a large SUV, and your son is right next to the door, there is a higher chance of him being injured.
It is a bit more inconvenient, since you have to climb inside the jeep to put the car seat in, but we purchased one with a detachable base that stays in the jeep and you just snap the carrier in and out. It worked out well for us. Once he got older, we put a regular car seat in the middle.
We never had any problems and were still able to fit two adults on each side of the KJ, with the seat in the middle.

I believe you. Here is what I heard. The metal... hoops to lock the car seat in with, should be no more then 11" apart. If you put the seat in the middle of the KJ, you are using the one from the left side and one from the right side. And they are 19" apart. The extra 8" separation will make the seat unstable and wiggle.

And if something should happen, and one of the hoops break, or the seat becomes unlatched, there is nothing stopping it from flying into the front passenger area.

I had the idea originally to put the seat in the middle. This is what "people" told me, or more importantly told the wife. I do think putting the seat in the middle is a good idea and will work fine, I just need to plead my case to her.
