Well, here it go's. I need help making the right choice. For many of you , I'm sure this is a total..no brainer'. For me, I't more of a dilemma (did I spell that right??) Anyway, here are my choices::: 1) Buy my wife the car SHE wants....a nice shinny new Cooper Mini................or 2) Give her my beloved KJ and buy me a 4 door 2007 Jeep Unlimited Rubicon. Here's the deal, She's never really driven a car (or a Jeep) before and the size of my KJ kinda' freaks her out...thats why she's leaning more tward the Mini. Personally, I think she can handle it.... What should I do.... |

New driver? No new car. She will be safer in the KJ I believe. Maybe the mini's have decent crash ratings but its a lot harder to run over a jeep. The KJ will survive throught many dents a dings that the mini wouldnt. And the KJ is not really that big, my daughter just passed her drivers test in our CRD, wife says its one of the easiest of our vehicles to park. AND Perfect trail riding buddy. Never have to wait for a group ride. |

If you have the money and wouldnt get in any tight spots, I would do option #2. The new wranglers are crazy awesome! The kj would still be in the family and you could drive it anytime you wanted. The kj is very small compared to, well, 4 door 2007 Jeep Unlimited Rubicon. I believe the wheel base on one of those is 116in and its 104in on the libby. If she really wants the mini, just give her what she wants. |

I think all the married dudes out there know what I'm talking about Its just after 10:00 PM here........maybe I'll sleep on it |

Make her learn to drive on the KJ. So that she has some idea of how to handle a mid-size vehicle and gets a presence of where it is at on the road. Plus it is a tank, so if she wrecks-- she will be fine. Then go and get her the mini she wants-- but make it a standard and teach her how to drive a stick. Last thing anyone needs is another person who can't drive behind the wheel, and if you can't drive a stick-- you can't drive, you are just herding the car down the road. Those mini's are tough for their size. Seen one rear-ended hard-- minimal damage. They seem to hold up much better in wrecks than those Civics and my poor old Corolla. |

My wife wanted a small car as well, so i bought a dodge neon for her and a 04 KJ for myself. My wife drove my KJ once because her neon was in the shop for service and now she always wants to drive it. She says she likes being able to see a couple of cars ahead and it makes her more comfortable to be in a larger vehicle. Trust me, let her start driving your KJ a little before you make the decision, within a week she will love it. |

When my wife and I got married she had a small car and would not drive my full size car or my truck, she said that they were too big. Eventually we ended up with bigger and bigger cars and trucks as we had kids, eventually we bought an extended cab Silverado, and guess what she wanted to drive it, first, before me. When we replaced our car a few years ago she said she did not care what we got as long as it was 4wd and sat high, she got a Buick Rendezvous. Now that we are going to replace the Rendezvous she wants the CRD. Which is great for me because the Jeep Wrangler Unlimited 4dr is within sight, unless I go for the Grand Cherokee CDI, I am kind of sold on the diesel. The point of the story, My wife has been happier with the 4wd suv's and trucks than she ever was with the small cars to the point that now they are her vehicle of choice. |

Get the Jeep. She'll appreciate the higher stance in traffic. Anytime I ride with friends in their cars, my Jeep feels way tall when I get back in. Plus, theres more room and passenger capacity in the Jeep (assuming your talking about the next Unlimited). |

The most important thing is that you're buying HER CAR! Don't manipulate the situation to get what you want and present it like you're acting in her interests, she'll see right through you. She's a grown woman (Well, I don't know that but I'll assume) and your wife, not your daughter. She's very capable of making her own decision about whats best for her. If you've done anything to push the KJ on her to this point you've sealed your fate. Your only choice is to take her to the Mini dealer and say yes dear to anything she wants. The only reason you're even there is to sign in the second space on the contract. How many people here remember the rush/pride/anticipation of getting your first car. Why shouldn't she have that same experience? No matter what vehicle you buy when you leave the dealership she has the keys and drives home. The most important thing is that you're buying HER CAR! |

I got back with my wife at the time (now my ex). I had a sweet Black Mustang Cobra and did what was mentioned above (except we were trading). I did it for her and got the nice Van she wanted. I`m still kicking myself to this day...dumba$$ |

Get the MINI...the 4dr wrangler is cool, but approaching 30k MSRP is ridiculous IMO. I can get a sweet Infiniti 2 dr coupe for that. |

Let her drive both. Maybe she will like the view from the KJ better than from the Mini. If not, the Mini is kewl...but since she has never driven before, you can only get the Automatic in the base model...not the S. |

the only way you'll be happy, is if she is happy!!! The Mini is the way to go on this one, plus there not too bad, quick and fun to drive, almost like a grown-up go kart!! |

Thanks for all the great advice guys!!! The wife actually sat down and read all these posts and she finnally gets it. She was convinced that the only reason I wanted her to drive my KJ was so I could get a new Jeep. Which is not totaly untrue, but the facts are, our KJ is payed off, it has really low miles, and its FULLY INSURED!!!. It's just way more practical...plus, I reminded her how bad the winter's are here in Korea. So, as soon as she gets home from the gym, we're going to start "Tony's KJ driving school".........Wish me luck BTW, I'm looking at getting my new Unlimited Rubi around Feb. or Mar. 2007.. Thanks again, Tony |
