I'm confused...

Still analyzing pro's and con's of 06 model over 04 ones,
I've read in another topic that 06 does not include trac-loc anymore and
is replaced with ESP/traction control.

But in another topic says that you must turn off ESP when off-road.

??????

Since I've been searching this forum I've learned the benefits of a rear locker so,
since trac-loc is replaced, the new feature is better? Does it block rear differential as well as needed?
How does it work?

In the other hand, Jeep's web page in Mexico states that 06 model is equipped with ESP, traction control and
rear LSD (all of them). Is it possible this information is wrong?

Thanks all of you guys for any help provided.

When in 4low it does in fact turn it off partially. Traction control will still brake a wheel when lifted and I must say it works really well. Not to sure how good it works in the mud, but it will move you when a wheel is lifted off the ground.

You talking about our Slade adventure? Yes, I've had Libby over rocks, balancing (almost - call it bouncing back and forth :) ) on two diaginal wheels, and in some mud, and I've been impressed with the ESP/TC (just not my usual rant on the 6spd on road with an overly enthusiastic ESP, but that's another story...)

In 4Hi ESP and Traction Control are on, if you push the esp button on the dash it will turn the esp to partially off mode, in which case you will have traction control but no automatic throttle reduction, in 4lo esp is in partially off mode as well.
So if you want tires spinning wildly, such as when going through mud you CAN turn the ESP to partially off mode while offroading in 4HI.

The 05's and 06's are not supposed to be available with LSD in them but I suppose it is possible they put them in there.

I took my 06 out this weekend for a little fun. Here is a quick pic of teetering on the diagonal wheels.

You may not be able to tell but the front passenger tire is just barely off the ground. Anyways, with esp on, I drove out of this without any problems. I believe this is a time where both of those wheels would spin without esp (or a locker). Someone correct me if I am wrong.

The ESP off with 4Lo engaged is actually a matter of safety. If it was left on, the yaw reading might end up forcing you down an area you don't want to go, the ABS would keep you rolling forward under loose conditions into a bad situation, ect. The other benfits remain on such as traction control.

Now the ESP on road has been buggin' some people because it seems to come on (or turn off your power) too often. Put much better tires on (a liitle wider and a lot stickier) and it will act much better. If you have the Selec-Trac, the ESP does not seem to come on even with stock tires as much...when running in Full Time 4WD.
