Quote: Q: What exactly is a Steering Wheel Accessory Commander (SWAC)?
A: SWAC is a system of components that allows you to control your electrical accessories via a steering wheel (or dash mounted) wireless transmitter that sends coded signals to a receiver / relay controller unit (typically mounted under your dashboard). This eliminates the need to drill holes for switches in your dashboard for switches. Additionally, SWAC features a three LED (light emitting diode) panel that tells the operator when the accessories are on or off. Q: What types of accessories can SWAC operate? A: SWAC can operate virtually any electrical accessory that is controlled by a switch. . Q: Some accessories are operated by a momentary pushbutton switch (like horns) and others with a toggle or rocker switch (like lights). How does SWAC control both? A: Each button of SWAC is independently programmable to operate in momentary mode (accessory ON only when the button is being pressed), or in toggle mode (push ON, push OFF). Q: How many accessories can a SWAC unit operate? A: Each SWAC unit has three buttons, and thus the capability to operate up to three different accessories. Top of Page Q: How does SWAC's transmitter mount to the steering wheel? A: SWAC's transmitter's mounting bracket is strapped to your steering wheel rim WITHOUT any drilling or other modifications to the steering wheel. Q: Can SWAC's transmitter be mounted in other ways than on a steering wheel? A: YES, SWAC's transmitter can be mounted on any flat surface, from dashboard to door panel. You are only limited by your imagination and creativity. Q: Why was it necessary for you to provide an LED status indicator with SWAC? A: The LED status panel gives you positive visual information if your accessories are on or off. This is extremely important with accessories like driving lights (that can blind other drivers) and exhaust brakes (because it is a safety item). Q: How does the LED status panel mount? A: The LED status panel can be mounted in many different ways. It can be double stick taped (supplied) virtually anywhere in or on your dashboard. For the most sanitary looking installation, we recommend "sandwiching" it in the seam where two dashboard panels meet to give a factory installed appearance. Follow this link to SWAC's home page to see the picture of an LED panel mounted in this way. Q: Will SWAC interfere with existing vehicle electronics? A: SWAC does not interfere with factory electronics. Q: Will SWAC work when a cellular phone or two way radio is in operation? A: YES, SWAC was designed to work when a cell phone or two way radio is in operation. Q: How do I change the programming of SWAC's button(s)? A: The control unit of SWAC has a wire programming loop for each button coming out of it. Cutting the loop (or reattaching if already cut) will change the operation of the button. Q: Can I mount SWAC's receiver unit under my hood to save me the hassle of running wires through the firewall of my vehicle? A: We DO NOT recommend mounting SWAC's control unit under the hood of a vehicle due to the harsh conditions that exist there. We have tested units in that manner (we were once considering making a sealed unit) and they worked perfectly. If you decide to mount your SWAC controller underneath the hood, please be aware that doing so will void your warranty. Q: Can I hook my accessories directly to SWAC without using the relays supplied in the kit? A: Under no circumstances should SWAC be hooked up without using the supplied relays. Using the relays insures that SWAC's sophisticated circuits are isolated from any interference or voltage spikes may be emitted from other vehicle electronics or computers. Q: Can I use more that one SWAC unit in my vehicle? A: YES. You can use two (or more) SWAC units in the same vehicle if you have more than three accessories that need controlling. Q: Can I use more than one transmitter with a SWAC unit? A: Yes, each SWAC unit can recognize multiple transmitters (as long as they have identical coding). In fact, we have customers that put SWACs into emergency vehicles and mount transmitters for both driver and passenger so that either person can operate lights, horns, and sirens. Please be aware that most of our dealers only stock single transmitter models and will have to special order a unit with matched transmitters. http://thebritebox.com/SWAC.main.page.html
