i had to take my liberty into the dealership today :( i noticed it was making a noise while i was driving, and it sounds like metal is scraping the road as i drive. also, when i put it into reverse, it makes an awful clunking noise. my dad seems to think its the transfer case?? but, he didnt want me driving around on it, so i had to get a loaner vehicle until the meantime. i took to table mesa today (in az), and just took it down the main trails, and put it into 4 low just in case, but i put it back into 2wd once i was done. when i first bought my jeep, it had the ball joints replaced as well as the transfer case, because when you would put it into 4 high? it wouldnt engage.... my dad seems to think me going today didnt do anything, as he noticed the noise a few days ago. crappy part ... i have no extended warranty! :( :( :(   can things get any worse for me, seriously? its been 1 hellish month so far, and hellish last month too .....

Awww, so sorry to hear about this... :( Are you not under the 7yr/70k powertrain warranty? In 2002 I think it was a 10yr/100k powertrain warranty.

I dont want to get your hopes up, but if your just outside the warranty and its a good dealership that did the work, they may still do it under warranty since they were the ones that probably screwed it up. They may of put a rebuilt tcase in it or something. :?

It could also be the linkage needing adjusted? It may not be going all the way into 2wd? Hope everything works out for ya. Im having a hard time myself right now. :?

Do you have a tranny skid? When I'm in reverse, there's a bolt that vibrates/moves and rubs against the skid making it sound like you're running over a metal garbage can or something. This bolt is on the driver's side toward the front. If you do either take off the skid and bend it back or take a grinder to where it's hitting. Good luck.

Here's a pictures, it's grinding away at the blue section. Seems I've bent it since then since it's doing it again.

Ok... it is broken, my baby is broken! :( the front driveline needs to be replaced because its about ready to go (covered under my warranty atleast), but the rear axels are bent and the rear differential is just about been taken off ... plus, i have had to get my driver's side window motor replaced because it went out a fw months ago, so i couldnt use the auto part at all, cuz if you let it go down by itself, it would go all the way down, but not come back up, so as a temp fix, my ex had fixed it witha zip tie, so i told them to fix that too, all for a grand total of $1450!   I WILL NEVER TAKE IT 4-WHEELING FOR AS LONG AS I LIVE! unless, of course, i find me an offroading buddy, preferably male  iam going to assume it was my ex-fiance who when he drove it must have done something to it ... cuz we shouldnt have taken it in places it should not have been in. oh, not to mention right before he broke it off with me, he got it off all 4 tires.

LESSON: I still havenot learned it yet .... maybe have a 2nd jeep for backup?

That sucks, but let me get this right, you let your ex-watever jump your jeep. Another thing thats confusing is that you said that one part of the drivetrain is covered under your warrenty but the rest is not??? Or is it $1450 just to replace the window motor?

oh yea, if your ever down in Georgia i'll wheel with ya!!

we were up in show low prior to the weekend he dumped me, and we were crusing thur the forest to find mud, and he was going a little to fast and didnt notice this dip until it was too late, and he got it off all 4 tires ...
as for the warranty, it's the limited powertrain warranty that is covering the front driveline, but they wont cover the rear axels because the service advisor says he can tell they have been damaged, that they werent defective. to replace the motor on the window, that is $415.00 just to replace that ... to replace the axels its $800.

wow, i would've made the @$$hole by me a new rear axle!!! Another option, unless you've already got it in the shop, i would try another dealer and see if they will replace the rear axle under warranty. I didn't think the dealership could just assume they know what happened and void the warranty!!!!

we had a bitter end that is still ugly. but, it is in the dealership unfortunately as i gave them the go ahead to fix it per my dad, but i wish i would have thought of that. my ex broke his front axels, took it to one dealership and they assumed because he had a leveling kit and the offroad tires on his truck he took it offroading, so he took it to another and covered $4000 worth of damage under warranty. so, i could write to jeep & try to get the $$$ back?

If you do write jeep, be sure NOT to tell them the real story about how it was damaged!!! All the dealers are different, I only take my jeep to the dealerships that have new Jeeps out front with lifts installed. They seem to understand better what happens when you USE the jeep.

I wouldn't recommend it.

Time for small claims court with your ex. If it's ugly anyway, it may as well be ugly with him paying for what he broke.

Sorry to hear all the problems. i Feel for ya.

Question - Is that $415 just for the motor or the motor and install because I seen used ones on ebay for $50 thats form the whole "motor and window regulator assembly". Ive replaced a few in various cars, not too hard. KjHawaii
