When axles are mentioned I read the word "spline" alot. What does that mean and what do our rears have? |

It is the splines on the end of the axle that engage the spider gears in the diff. Ours have 29 splines. |

They are grooves at the end of your axle that are about 1.25" long. The more splines...the more contact surface area. Usually the more splines the thicker ( larger circumference ) the axle...ie...stronger. The olded XJ's have 27 spline 8.25's...the newer heavier KJ's have 29 spline axles. |
