| Post subject: | Aluminum Skids ... Check Below |
I have a set of Aluminum Skids made in Israel made for the CRD's...but some of the skids will most likely fit gassers...especially the ENGINE and FUEL TANK skids. They would be very light but still strong. The 2WD guys might even like them...Post any responses to the thread below: http://www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB3/vie ... 2ac6c5996e You will see pics and find out weights...Just another option for us... |

I saw them at SEMA off road, I can contact them and get prices, really neat, will fit the 2002 and up. They have a bunch of other stuff for the TJ, and I think they were going to look into a KJ bumper. Real nice people. They havd this real cool seat suspension system for the TJ, just like in the big rigs. If I remember they were expensive. Al |

I can't imagine they would last very long, or hold up to too much abuse. |

I found some prices on a German site...posted in the original thread in the CRD forum. ( Prices are subject to change of course ) The skids will most likely fit all the KJs...at least the Engine and Fuel...not sure about the crossmember with the Tranny/Transfercase Skid. The steprails/sliders are really nice ( total weight about 43#...these have steel sliders/steps with aluminum mounting hardwear and an aluminum/diamond plate step cover ). These are not for everybody, but if you are just 4wheelin ( not RockKrawling like I used to do with my 2002), these definitely save weight ( all three together are less than 80# ) and protect the underside from most dangers...including stuff on the roads. They do have some really nice suspension seats...might work really nice in a KJ since our seats are mediocre at best. |

I agree. I really like the design, they are very sharp looking skids, but having seen what some real serious rock crawling has done to 3/16" steel gas tank and belly skids, those will not last. Saving a little weight will not save your drivetrain or gas tank when the going gets tough. Those skids will crack and fail right at those brake points. And aluminum does not slide on rocks very well, they snag and hang up. I think if they made them out of 3/16" steel, maybe A50, they would have a great setup. In its current form, you will shred your money all over the rocks on the trail. If you are prerunning in the sand, then aluminum skids are good because they won't be abused as much and they are light weight, but I don't see anyone running the baja in a 4000lb KJ anytime soon. The most practical material for the KJ in the states is steel. How much difference is an extra 50 or even 100lbs going to make to a KJ? If you really want to save some weight, take off all the doors, otherwise load up on all the armor you can get. For anyone running trails that get any kind of rock contact, these probably wouldn't be a good idea. If you just like the look, or only hit the backwoods forest roads to get to a good fishing or hunting spot, then they should be all the armor you really need. Sorry for the long post, just my thoughts. Edit: Oops, just seen that Darby already agrees that they are not ideal for hardcore rockcrawling. |

Ditto on that, the only prices I found were a bit higher than what you had, not sure if it was a german site or not though. http://www.eurofourwheeler.com/pdf_listino/hi.pdf or just go to www.eurofourwheeler.com and browse from there. |
