Post subject:  In the process of buying an 03 KJ...is this a decent deal?

Needed to pick up a DD for my Gf, she wanted a KJ, so we put a deposit down last night on this one.

2003 KJ, 4x4, Sport, auto trans, 3.7 L, power windows, locks, sunroof, single cd, has 21k miles on it. It's red, with light grey interior, has fog lamps, I think 15 inch steel rims, tinted glass, rear wiper, and the dealer said they would install mopar cruise control for us. It's a one owner Jeep, was owned buy an older guy, so it's never been offroad, and it's in real nice shape. We settled on $13,500, out the door, includes all taxes, MV fees, dealer fees, and Mopar cruise installed.

How did I do? Decent?
Is the cruise a major thing for them to install?

Thanks

I have an '03 (we love it), and your deal sounds fine to me. It might be a little higher than wholesale or book, but sometimes those low-mileage trades, owned by a geezer that never drove over 55mph are worth it to me....for peace of mind maybe. They should have done the ball joint recall for you already, I'd ask. ENJOY!!! 8)

Make sure they install the cruise control BEFORE your take delivery. You would be surprised how low a priority you become at some dealers once the money has switched hands. If they cannot get it done prior to del. have them provide you a rental while the work is being performed. Again, depending on your relationship/past experience with the dealer you might want to get this in writing. Statements such as "we typically can provide a loaner" don't carry much weight. That being said, enjoy the KJ :D

So it turns out that they can't get the cruise control module for the Liberty. They say there are only like 5 in the whole country and they can'y seam to get one. I found them on www.jeepsareus.com, and am awaiting availability thru them?

So as of now the deal is off, b/c we are unsure about the cruise issue, and one thing my gf wants on it is cruise. They did offer us a nice price on it after they said they couldn't do the cruise, but for her it was a deal breaker.

So anyone added Mopar cruise to their libby? Or know of a RED or SILVER one for sale in the NJ area with cruise and a Sunroof in decent shape. Apparently RED is a hot color, and with those options is next to impossible. We've seen a few, but they have been pretty beat !

I got my 2004 jeep libertysport 4x4 with 11K for 14,300, so your deal seems good.

They built over 800,000 Libby's, so finding one equipped from the factory with cruise or any other option shouldn't be too hard. Keep looking while they are trying to come up with a solution for this.

I hate cruise control. All it does it downshift on the hills b/c it didnt give it gas fast enough then it downshifts again going down the hill b/c it didnt let off fast enough at the top and needs to slow back down. I usually press cancel before the hill and drive it myself going up and down then resume after the hill. Then 1mile down the road I cancel again, then resume, and so one and so on. The rolling hills in Kentucky are just great! :?

Haha...I feel you're pain. Those mountains (or hills as they call them) are beautiful but it's a pain trying to get through them w/ a motorhome and trailer w/ the cruise set. It winds out midway through the hill and then you're doing 80 by the time you're going down hill again!! Alot of the races we travel to involve driving through Kentucky and Tennesssee. My favorite part is seeing the runaway truck lanes in TN!! :P

I know how to fix your problem with the cruise control.

GET A CRD

Sorry I'm not as fortunate as you "LUCKY" CRD owners!!!! :) Being that I'm still in school, I need something cheap and good on gas. NOT saying the CRDs aren't bad on fuel, it's just easier finding a gas pump than a diesel pump around my area!!

As for Cruise Control...I don't really care if it's on my vehicle or not...I rarely ever use it. But if it's what the girl friend wants...I suppose she gets it!! :D Good luck finding a KJ!

We would love to get a CRD, but they are out of the current budget.

Believe it or not finding a RED or Silver Liberty with CRUISE and a SUNROOF and decent mileage is a lot harder than it sounds. We have looked at quite a few and they have all been pretty much trashed by the previous owners. I am guessing a lot of them are lease return vechicles.
