NO, no no noooooo. If it is like the other K&N filters you need to clean it, dry it then re-oil it. Here are some directions from the K&N website.

Didn't mean to sound harsh, just wanted to get your attention. Running a K&N without oil is just asking for trouble, especially here in AZ. Of course, there are those who say running a K&N is bad period. I'll do some more research and then I may change; it may be a slight waste of money but if it saves me more $$$ down teh road it would be worth it.

How often do you need to oil and/or clean air intakes?

K&N says not to clean it for 50k miles. Seems like alot to me, but remember, the K&N cleans better as it gets dirty. Its supossed to let just as much air through as it gets dirty also.

Be sure you spray from the clean side to the dirty side. If you dont, then you just push the dirt into the filter. Dont use to much pressure either, a good steading stream is good enough. Dont put to much oil back onto the filter or it will mess sensors up. K&N says their oil will not mess them up, but ive head other wise. :)

I run K&N filters in both my jeeps. The way it looks to me, they pick up a lot more dirt than a regular paper filter. Maybe its becuase of the oil on the K&N (with a paper filter the dust would fall?) or Maybe its that it lets less through.

Either way, I clean mine every 10K miles or so and you should see the dirt that comes off of them! yuck!

Just head down to the auto parts store and pick up what they call a "K&N Recharger Kit". It comes with a degreaser and the oil. You degrease, let it soak, rinse, let it dry, re oil, and then reinstall. About a 4 hour process or so.

Actually K&N filters do not filter out as much dirt as the more common paper element filters for most of their life. It is true that a K&N will filter more when dirty and this is about the only time they filter as much as a paper filter. The increased flow comes at a price, and that is less cleaning. For this reason you don't see many professional trucks running any of this type of filter. If they were such a wonderful thing, every trucking company in the world would use them. They are ok for racing in my opinion, but I have torn down quite a few engines and I can honestly say that ones that ran K&N and similar filters did show a lot more wear in the cylinder bores. Just my .02

Pics of my stock KJ intake sys that had a drop in K&N filter in it for about 10K miles. I have since switched to a Wix air filter w/ no more dust in intake tract. This was the second time I found this on my KJ. 1st time I cleaned it out, cleaned and reoiled the filter and found same results again.

I do drive in very dusty conditions often and on other vehicles of mine that were only street driven w/ a K&N, I didn't notice this type of problem.
I also have Not seen any kind of performance change since switching from K&N back to WIX.
