Sometimes when I start up my 2004 Liberty and try to drive off, the transmission delays for a 3 or 4 seconds before going into gear. What gives? Should I be concerned?

Is this when backing up or going forward?

There is a delay with the auto trans...I don't know if a 4 second delay is normal though, seems fairly long. Is this a new thing or has it always happened.

It does it when going either forward or backwards. Maybe more like 2-3 seconds. Sorry!

It's normal. Mine did it a lot in the cold, never in warmer weather though. I read on here almost everyone has experienced it.

there is a tsb on this issue. i had the same issue, took it into the stealership for the shifting problems. the tsb states that the trans computer has to be reflashed. so they did that, and it did nothing. i ended up having to have the trans totally rebuit under warranty, they replaced the rings, the clutches, the trans converter, everything but the bell housing. it took them three days to complete.

be sure you take it back to the ship if the reflash does not work...
i posted the story somewhere on here a while ago with the tsb #, but its probably been deleted due to the age.
