Ok, this is a problem Ive been having since the jeep was handed over to me, when it's cold out, typically below 45 degrees, the oil light comes on and dings, then goes away, this only happens at normal running temp. and after its been running for at least 10 minutes, since the weather is starting to cool down again, I have gotten it once, just last week, on a cold morning, anyone have an idea of what is wrong? |

maybe the wrong weight of oil? I run 10w30 synthetic and have never had any problems. |

Is it happening while driving or sitting still? Under acceleration or decelleration? Has the oil & filter been changed recently? How many miles on the vehicle and oil/filter? If it only happens after it is warmed up I can't imagine it would be a thick oil viscosity problem. I would look into getting a gauge on it to check what the oil pressure is doing and then try to duplicate when it happens so you can see any changes in oil pressure. IF it is high mileage and oil wasn't changed often enough (due to inferior oil and infrequent changes) it could be a drain back problem where the oil drainback holes are sludged up and not allowing the oil back to the pan causing it to starve for oil and setting the sensor off. I am wondering if you just have a bad oil pressure sensor? |

Ok, it sometimes happens when sitting at idle, or when decellerating while pulling into my parking spot at school. I change the oil religiously at or a little before 3000 miles, I run penzoil 10w 30 the filter always gets changed with the oil, the vehicle has 86,000 miles, seems completely unrelated to oil changes as it has gone off the day before, the day after, event 2 weeks to a month after an oil change, I will probably end up installing a pressure gauge this winter |

I would definately have the pressure checked even if you have to have a shop or dealer do it. IIRC there is a spot near the filter where you can hook up a temporary pressure gauge to test. |

Ya, thanks for the replies, I will probably have the dealership look into it when ever I find time to take it in for the lbj recall, I have a feeling they will rape me on this one. |
