tow straps come in a variety of lengths... what is the most useful length to carry around with me? would it be better to get straps that have 'loop' ends or ones with hooks at the ends? |

DON'T get the hooks if it should snap it or it slips off it could seriously hurt some one go with the loops & I believe mine is 20ft I'll have to check |

I've heard of some groups prohibiting the hooks on their runs for that reason. In fact, I think the Jeep Jamorees altogether ban them or very strongly frown upon them. |

ideal will depend on the environment you wheel in. Most are 20 ft. and this works well in most cases. If you do a lot of mud/water type runs longer can be useful so the tug can get to some solid ground. You can usually find them in 30ft lengths. Carry 2 20 footers and a 1" dowel and you can linke them to make a 40 footer. If you're in woods and around rocks shorter is better because the trails tend to be curved or lots of ups and downs. This provides lots of opportunity for obstacles to rub on the strap if its too long. |
