Post subject:  Swaybar...

Well I'm heading to Louisiana here in a couple of weeks and I am curious what it takes, both time and tools, to temporarily remove the front swaybar for trail riding. Thanks for the help!!!

18mm socket/ratchet, 4 nuts for bar clamps, two at the links, 10-15 minutes, Done. IF your fasteners are rusty I would soak them w/ blaster or WD before hand and maybe break them loose then retighten them so you know they wil come off easier.

Ditto on the blaster. I use PB blaster, works great. A lot of the times I will soak down fasteners the day or a few days before I plan on taking them off, it just makes life a lot easier.

Got to thinking....isn't there 2 support brackets for the swaybar across the front end?? Is it cool to let the swaybar just hang from there or is there some way you guys rig it up to remain in one position?? I know about the little link to the lower control arm which is what you mean with the 4 nuts I presume (2 per side). But what do you guys do to keep it from "flopping" around? or does it not do that??? Thanks again!!!

I remove the bar w/ the links still attached, so a total of 6 nuts/bolts in all. Toss the whole thing in the back or leave at camp and wheel on.

Yea yank the thing off. If you don't you'll be stopping on the middle of the trail to do it after it bangs around.

Important...
I used a couple of cable ties to hold the sway bar up... they broke sway bar banged around and shredded the ABS line that runs alongside the brake hose..
Take a bit of time to check that everything is well clear before you drive off. I suspect the wire rope cables from the JWS discos are not all for show!

I have never had to remove the sway bar to run these trails most of the hills you will be going up and down as far as I can rember the only times you will go on 3 wheels is in maby 3 or 4 places and the one that comes to mind you are going down hill so you need breaks not go
IMO dont bother not worth the trouble besides if it rains the sway bar will be the last thing on your mind
go look at the pics and vids from the last work weekend

Id say you will get tons of rubbing with those tires when flexing and turning.. I popped the foglight door into the bumper with the sway bar on and offroading.. I couldnt imagine what it would do with it off.

I've never had too either but it's nice to have off. And to be honest I have alot less rubbing when wheeling than onroad. But I have trimmed the crap out of my plasticy parts up front.
