My dealer is trying to get the parts to do the lower ball joint recall next week, until now no official recall notice was send out to me or the dealer and parts did not arrive yet in the UK.

Without this website I would not be aware of any problem/danger, I was one of the first KJ's who had the first lower ball joint recall done in the UK due to the info on this website.

I'm from Middle East/Saudi Arabia, and I contacted my dealer to do the recall for me, but he said that there are no any notice from Jeep Company to do the recall outside US,
Anyway, I told the dealer to change the Upper & Lower ball joints, and charge it to me, as I am looking for Safety 8)

Better to be safe than sorry, but you will still have the old model ball-joints fitted as the new ones are only obtainable in the US at the moment.

I've already had to replace both my LBJ's. But I have had no notice from yet. I'm going to see them tomorrow to see what the score is.

Acullay, I don't know what they are going to install in my KJ, but I already inform the Manager that they should call all KJ's for changing the Ball Joints, to safe the peoble, even if they are going to charge every one.
But, if we come to the truth side, Chrysler should call thier customers for thier safety.

I had the recall work completed today. I received the notice about a week and a half ago. My parents had the recall completed last week. Both KJs are '02s.

No Luck, had to cancel the service and re-schedule for a later date as the ball-joints are not in yet :(

I would not mind if it was a recall for a minor thing like a door handle that gets stuck or a seatbelt light that won't go on,

BUT WE ARE TALKING ABOUT THE POSSIBILLITY OF WHEELS COMMING OF THE VEHICLE WHILE DRIVING !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Same story in Germany the only diffrence is the German dealer is trying to tell me that you guys in the states haven't even get the parts. Which I know is crap. But I had mine checked and after 36,500 miles they are still as strong as when I got libby two years ago with 30 miles.

I am in Spain and my KJ got the recall done last week.
I called the dealer and told them that that I saw the recall advice at www.jeep.com and that my KJ appeared with "incomplete". That car had to stay 2 days at the dealer because the spare arrived one day later, allthough they give me the date 3 weeks in advance.
They told my right LBJ looked dangerous.

They have plenty of stock of the new Ball Joint here in Australia and mine are getting done tomorrow at 20000km's service. I haven't received the letter from DC either, but my car is listed on Jeeps web site for the recall.

Post subject:  Lower Ball Hoint Recall

I'm a Canada boy, Saskatchewan to be exact. And YES, I've had the ball joint recall done to mine. The dealership I deal with at least know's of the recall and is busy fixing the problem as people request it!

Just remember 2002 and 2003's have to have the heat shields on also.

When I went for the new ball joints , the mechanic took off the heat shields and did not replace them. It is on the dealers safety recall notice F23 that they have to be on. When I questioned the service manager and the mechanic, they both told me there is no need for the heat shields anymore. That is BS.

I called the DC 1 800 # and they told me they DO have to be on the Jeep. So they also called my Dealer and told them, they have to be on. So I guess there are a lot of Jeeps in my area with none on anymore.

So after these heat shields are on, I will be travelling a little farther to a different dealer.

Please everyone, check to see if your heat shields are still on after your LBJ's are installed.

Good news, my ball-joints are in and I will have them replaced first thing next week.
My wife is using the KJ a lot lately and also for long distances, so it will be a relief when our KJ is 'safe' again.

I just dropped off the KJ this a.m. for the recall work. Let's hope all goes well on Halloween, I scared :(

....Ok work done, all good and pain free. Steering feels a bit tighter, no more slop in the wheel, which I had a bit of before.

So the new ball joints are fitted, the suspension feels much stiffer and steering is much more direct.
I checked the tire pressure as I thought the where over inflated, guess what? they where at 30 Psi, I had to fill them up to 33 Psi myself and now it feels even stiffer.
At least my 2003 KJ with 53500 Miles on the clock feels like new again :D
