You will never beleave what was on the invoice....

" installed lower ball joint kit per recall note, veh has a lift kit and could be unsafe if involved in an accident "

Oh !!! and the lower ball joints snapping off at 60-70mph IS safe?!?!

The recall is because THEIR parts "ball joints" are low quality junk that breaks for no resson, but they have the nerve to say the lift could be unsafe!! :-)r

And they put it on the invoice!!

I made sure to check over all the joints & cv boots before I would sign for the work. When I commented that there are dealerships out there that are selling Jeeps with lift kits allready installed, all they could say is " oh, thats not good " what a joke. :?

I don't know about you but in most case I would rather be sitting higher than lower in the event of an accident. Now avoiding an accident miiiiight be another story.

Are Jeep dealers turning into pansies....................story at eleven.

I would be finding myself another dealer and quick. I'm just glad that I have an all Jeep dealer to go to; and everyone there drives Jeeps (most with lifts). Plus they have a tech there who's been around since that place sold Eagles.

What is truely unsafe about lifts? you might run over a smaller "sport" vehicle?

If it was a real question, here's what's unsafe about lifts:

- Higher center of gravity = higher chance of rollover
- Longer springs can mean more body roll, which can also lead to a rollover
- Higher suspension angles in the front can lead to premature failure of components, such as balljoints and CV angles

Basically, ANY vehicle modification should be looked at as unsafe. The vehicle is now out-of-spec from what it was designed as, and as such, all the countless tests that a manufacturer does before releasing a vehicle and giving it a safety rating are now invalid.

That being said, I still lifted my liberty and I love it. Drive slow on the corners, nobody will feel bad for you if you roll a lifted truck on an onramp by driving too fast. You can't blame that one on DC.

I'm thinking they aren't Jeep dealers anymore, just Chrysler/Dodge dealers that carry Jeeps. There hasn't been a real jeep since Willys sold the name... :(

That's very true. Especially the first comment, even braking distance might be different causing ABS to function differently, but it just looks so darn good with big tires & a lift on a KJ. So for casual off-roading and drive-around vehicle it is a good idea to lift, but for a primary vehicle that is mainly ridden on highway, and like to speed time to time, it is not the wisest decision to lift liberty.

I just think it's :-)r that they say the lift is unsafe, but it's the ball joints that are breaking (on stock KJ's) wich is really not safe.

That statement is not always true...better tires, better brakes, better ball joints, lowering COG, and many other mods make cars/trucks better than stock.

I know you were talking mostly about lifts...but even a properly executed lift can be as safe or safer. If you lift a vehicle say 1" with better springs and increase the width 2" with better wheels and tires, you can actually have a more stable vehicle. It is all in the thoguth out plan.

Plus the biggest factor in the safety of a vehicle is the Driver... 8)
