Dealers do this all the time just to drum up business. The next person they called and said they were looking for a 2004 PT Cruiser... |

Work them and see how great a deal they will give you for your KJ and then how great on whatever new Jeep you want. You can always walk away. |

Heh, yeah. One of our competitors called me one day to tell me they were interested in my 2005 dodge SRT-4. I told them I had traded it off on another vehicle and they asked what it was. I responded that it was a 2006 Jeep Liberty Renegade and they replied that they were interested in it too, lol... What a bunch of BS. |

Same here, I still get calls on my 1996 Acura that I sold 6 years ago, maybe they will make a good trade in offer on my Huffy bike I still have from my youth. LOL. I can get the new Wrangle with the right offer! I responded to one of those once and you really have to be on your toes when you go in. Since they know what vehicle you have already, plus they ask other info (mileage, what you are looking for, etc) they are more than ready for you when you go in. The guy I saw already had tons of senarios worked out with pricing, trade in, and all that and was throwing numbers at me left and right. Ten times worse then they do already. |

Weve even had them chase us in golf carts! BRAKE CHECK! |

I had a dealer do that with my 02 ram 3500. Now this thing had tons of mods to it. When I went in ( I was looking to get a new vehicle), I was talking with the sales guy about their interest in the vehicle. Funny thing...about twenty minutes later the apraiser guy comes over, hands me the keys, and tells me he is not interested in the vehicle. His quote "those ten cylinder Cummings gas motors are not reliable". I lauged so hard I was crying! I proceded to ask him to show me the other four cylinders, the "Unleaded fuel only" sticker, and where it says "Cummings". The guy had a confused look on his face, so I proceded to walk him around the truck, show him the Cummins valve cover, "diesel fuel only" sticker, and the six exhaust ports on the manifold. Oh yeah, this was at a Dodge dealership!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I ended up getting a cherry 1978 Buick Electra Limited |

Standard for dealerships. We do this every 6 months or so to get good low mileage vehicles for our used lot. If we are in true need we give better than bluebook if not well know what you will take. DO NOT PICK A VEHICLE BEFORE THE KJ IS APPRAISED. If they wont work that way say thanks and walk out. |

A friend of mine bought one of the 1st Cadillac Allantes. Remember them? At the time they were a very expensive car for a Caddy and so Cadillac guaranteed a resale percentage to entice German car customers. If it wasn't worth a certain percent after 3 years GM would buy the car back. After a few years the dealer called my friend and said "just bring in your Allante so we can give you a new one with no charge and no questions asked." He said "yeah sure!" and hung up. This happened several times before the salesman finally rang his front door bell and explained that all he had to do was bring the old one in and they would truly give him a new one with no $$ out of pocket at all. Turns out that the resale did suck, and they had a backup of inventory of new stuff because the model stopped selling. So it was a cheaper deal to swap out new cars for old ones than to buy back the used suff and have even more inventory. Not bad huh? |

I have never heard of dealerships mailing or calling to buy your vehicle, with all this gimmiky, "we want your 2000...blah". Perhaps this is only happens in the US? Don't get me wrong, once you step in a dealership, they want you to trade in everything including your mother....or mother-in-law Plus I would have hard time believing someone wanted to buy my KJ when there are so many more out there? |

I have never had this happen before until last night. I got a letter from the Ford dealer here in town claiming they wanted my vehicle because it had been serviced by them so they know it's been taken care of. I just laughed because The last ford I bought was '96 Probe (in '96) and someone hit me and totalled it in '01. Maybe I should go to the junkyard and find it and bring it in to the dealer and say, "OK, $2500 for this right?" |
