Post subject:  06 Sept 06 Ball Joint Recall Question

I have not been keeping up lately! I never knew about this second recall until I took my rig in today for trans filter(s) and fluid change.

This is the second Lower ball Joint recall performed on my KJ. After having it done, my front-end sits over 1/2" taller??? It has more space between the fender and top of the tire, like the BJ sits higher or something.

Anyone else's rig sitting higher after the latest recall??

This is the first I have seen this mentioned myself, if your old balljoints were soo wore out that they sat 1/2" lower, you are probably lucky to be alive  I am still trying to figure out if a taller balljoint would give you any lift between the tire and wheel well or not, I dont think it would, I think it might actually lower the body of the jeep toward the ground a little :?:

Some oneelse was saying this exact same thing on here before. Your old BJs were probably just worn really bad.

I didn't measure it - so I'm not certain - but there wasn't a noticeable change in height with the new ball joints.

I noticed the same thing when the BJs were replaced on my '04 Liberty!

Ahh, trying to think if that would work. Head....HURTS!!

I think it does..

If you joint is worn, that means the ball is trying to come OUT of the socket, letting the jeep drop down. After you get the new joint, its not the fact that the balljoint is longer, its actaully in its socket. Make sense?

Think about it:

I'll never have worn balljoints because I am lucky enough to be alive after ball joint failure in the past (not liberty). I'm balljoint retentive because your life rides on a $2 part built by the lowest bidder.

My old ball joints had absolutely no play and were changed out on the first recall.

Oh well, just waz wonderin.

I had a chain and padlock around the diff when I went to the dealer to keep them out of there. They always have to bring up "something back there is makin noise"

Haha, its still hangin in there..

Im used to it now.. Ive learned when to give it gas and when to let off to keep down noises and such.. It still pops rather loud sometimes in turns when I let off the gas though..

Everytime after I jack up the front end and fully extend the struts the front end seems higher and firmer. I never actually measured it, but will next time.

Did you get a recall notice, or did you just take it in?

I recieved a notice for the first one last year or so...had it done.

This time I went in to have the Tranny filters & fluid changed per a coupon and my Layzeeeeeness, they told me there is another recall dated 06 Sept 06 and I probably have not recieved the notice yet. They urged me to do it while they have the Joints in-stock...So I did.

I still gotta call you back man...sorry

they told me Jeep doesn't do a mass mailing due to dealers being over run buy customes.(not to mention dealers get a limited # of parts at a time).... mailings trickle out to jeep owners..... but where i went they said, they do them upon on request..... thanks to this site, it could have very well saved the life of our family.......
