We took the KJ in for the ball joint recall to Stuart Bowman Jeep in Asheboro, NC. Before leaving the parking lot of the dealership I noticed a large gouge on the wheel, through the paint into the aluminum. No marks on the tire or lip of rim, like it was dropped or fell over on something. The dealership and Chrysler won't do anything about it. Can I get in trouble if I curb a brand new Chrysler while test driving?

I say clog all their toilets on a saturday morning and leave them a present in one. A double decker would be nice.

I had a big gouge in one of my wheels, looked like someone slipped with an impact wrench. They tried to cover it up with the paint from a Chrystler van... I wasn't having it, so I looked up the owner of the dealership in the phone book and gave him a call at home... that fixed everything right up and I got my new wheel in 4 days.

Or you could pull the, "OOops, sorry Mr. Salesman, I seemed to have forgotten that I have a bladder control problem  " while test driving a new ride.

Ok, maybe not....

These are all great ideas that I will definitely try! As far as contacting the owner, well he is the root of the problem. He will you the run-around more than anybody else there. I spoke with him today and his advice was to contact my insurance company.

Really? My experience with owners is that they want the most customers possible... so they will try to fix whatever is wrong to keep your busniness. Now, General Managers are a different story... they just want to make money.

Never had a problem with an owner, but always have problems with GMs.

Cut and paste this in your letter. Don't forget to let him know how much pull we have.

There's always the "Does this car have a passenger airbag?" qusetion asked to the person the dlr sends along on the test drive while you are accelerating!

Just ask the owner if he knows the 10-100 rule. As in, You tell 10 people that the dealership sucks, they tell 10 (100) who in turn tell 10 (1000), and so on. Which is basically what MJ suggested. Let them know there are ways even the simplest complaint can come back to really costs big $$$$ in sales.

Find out what the state laws are on taping a conversation. In Louisiana only 1 person involved has to know the convo is being taped. If it's the same in NY.....get creative. I have some web space. I'd be willing to host audio or better yet, video of the owner making an booty of himself. Maybe you'd get a new Rubicon if you agree to take it down.

Tell the owner you're taking it to Daimler-Chrysler and then DO IT! It's amazing how much pull that has.

Auto repair is heavily regulated by the state - file a complaint with your state's version of the Office of Consumer Protection and CC the dealer's service manager, owner, and DC regional rep. Dealers hate having complaints filed because, at least here, once they reach XX number they have to post a bond, etc.

Good luck

Also call the BBB. I did that once on a computer deal and the president of the company called me himself to resolve the problem. Try it it worked for me.
