Post subject:  Smashed my Libby

A bozo pulled left out in front of me today at a signal intersection. I saw him start to pull out a little, he paused, then as soon as I got close the intersection he hit the gas and we hit left bumper to left bumper and ended up in the middle of the intersection.

Smashed my left front side in. Broken lower A-arm, broken rim, popped tire, the fender, bumper and lights on that side are all goners. The hood is slightly dented, and there may be a slight "tweak" in the body = the left rear door is not flush with the body anymore. Pissed off.

I hadn't recalled my LBJ's yet but they didn't separate on impact, at about 30mph. :x

Sorry to hear that USPLibby...Glad you came out alright...no airbag deployment? If not that is good for you in it not getting totalled out but if what you say is true about the door then the body might be warped some...sorry for you and the KJ but as the saying goes...cars are replaceable, but loved ones not so much...Good luck with that guys insurance...if he had any....

Thanks.... No airbag, I guess it was more of a glancing blow as he was partially turned into my lane. The cab doesn't look that damaged, we'll see.

People need to learn to @$#% drive...

Sorry, but I almost got hit again today as I was taking the KJ to the body shop to get it fixed after my accident a week and a half ago. Now I'm stuck driving a Hon-don't

Yes, glad your OK. Interesting that the LBJ survived but that the heavy cast LCA was destroyed :?

The lower a-arm was split in half on mine when my wife rolled it. But I don't know if it was from jumping the curb at speed or from the rollover. The new balljoints remained intact though.

Actually, my lower and mid back has been really stiff and uncomfortable since the accident. I saw a doctor this morning and he took some X-rays and gave me a general exam. Been taking a lot of Tylenol the past couple days.

I haven't heard anything from 21st Century insurance. I hope they don't total my Liberty out. Running the wiring for all my lights and accessories was a pain in the booty not to mention all of the little "upgrades" that I've added through the years.

I couldn't really tell if there was any damage to the front diff and drive lines either.

My KJ did get totaled out. I'm the third one from a couple weeks ago. My first, it resets the fault-free odometer from 600,000 miles to 0. Embarrassed to say, it was all me, exiting the freeway a couple exits early after a 900 mile weekend. Went into the dirt, kept her upright, but opted not to cross blind into the on-coming cloverleaf. Bled off speed, but parked her at about 25 mph into concrete. Stock bumper, radiator and fan, oil pan, skids, frame cross member, airbag. I thought she took it pretty well, considering.

She was pretty current, with the LBJ's, 50K service, brakes, and new tires done that month. Insurance will give me about 40% credit for the Frankenlift and 50% credit on 5 of 6 new Bridgestones. Hosed on the ARB locker, but did grab the compressor. Also recovered the Boulderbars, rear hook, gas skid; Superskid, if I can find a big Torx first thing tomorrow before it gets moved.

Imagine I'll look at the 06 Libby... or that 4dr Wrangler Rubi.

It was a good weekend. Edwards Airshow, a run to the Burro Schmidt Tunnel, some rear locker work going up mine tailings. She was a good one.

I'm assuming my 05 parts will fit on an 06, so I'll be eyeing any good price on an 06 on a dealer lot. In the back of my mind, though I'm wondering about better insurance coverage for a stock 4dr Wrangler Rubi.

Ben that sucks! Glad to hear your ok though. If you get the Rubi you can get away without doing any mods for quite a while. Do you have a back up vehicle? Does this mean no caching for a while?

Let us know what happens.

Was able to recover Boulderbars, Superskid (w/ #55 torx bit), gas and t-case skids, Poison Spyder ring, rear hook, floor mats, 2 10-ply Revos, 2nd spare rim, air compressor... so they'll go back on some other KJ in December. Already called All-J. Good gawd those Boulderbars and Superskid are heavy. That's my smash and grab story.

Riding shotgun this coming weekend with SoCal4x4Geocachers.org in a 4Runner, on the 100 mile Mojave Road from Laughlin to Barstow.

I finally got her back. :D

There are still a few things to fix including getting some OME HD springs but my back is still not up to any heavy lifting. The next Beavis that turns/cuts into my lane is going to get a big surprise.
