Seen the new article on Page 72, looks like they got the same results on the dyno that we have gotten by seat of the pants. New exhaust and intake don't accomplish much, the around 2 mpg increase in fuel economy was nice.

AFE Magnum Force intake amd Magnaflow 2 1/2 catback exhaust. 2.5 hp, 4 ft lb of torque gained. Gas mileage with the Frankenlift and MT/Rs was 10 - 11 mpg, now 12.5.

I knew that Magnaflows advertized power #'s had to be high, but didn't think they were that far off.

Magnaflows claim = +18.7 HP & +24.9 FT-LBS.

and they only got +2.5 HP & +4 FT-LBS with the Magnaflow exhaust and an intake!?!?

Usually those advertised gains are at the crank, and rarely ever at the wheels. Those numbers sound about right at the dyno.

I've never heard of the AFE Magnum Force intake.

Did you mean AEM Brute Force??

Is everyone taking into consideration the difference in tire sizes they are running on their lifted KJ's? Your odometer will be off just like your speedo and that should be taken into consideration when figuring out true mileage. Those getting over 15-16 MPG on a lifted KJ w/ bigger tires are doing prettty good if they are correcting their odometers.
- 225/75R16 Overall Diameter:29.28 in Revs per Mile:710.3 @ 60MPH

- 245/75R16 Overall Diameter:30.46 in Revs per Mile:682.8 "
Speedometer Difference: 4.027% too slow

- 255/70R16 Overall Diameter:30.05 in Revs per Mile:692.1 "
Speedometer Difference: 2.629% too slow

- 265/75R16 Overall Diameter:31.64 in Revs per Mile:657.3 "
Speedometer Difference: 8.063% too slow

- 235/85R16 Overall Diameter:31.72 in Revs per Mile:655.7 "
Speedometer Difference: 8.326% too slow

I was about to say, 18 MPG!?!?!!?...my odo is corrected for my tires and I only get 14.2-14.8 mpg depending on whether the street lights are kind to me during the week while driving to and from school. Having the lift and roof basket also causes a larger hole in the air for my KJ to go through too, thus aerodynamics are shot...but i don't care..i like the rig and am lucky enough to have a decent paying internship for now to help cover gas...~~fingers crossed it turns into salary after graduation~~

Thats about right if you are driving around in the city. My stock kj got 15mpg in stop and go traffic. I didnt notice a drop at all with the lift and maybe 1-2mpg loss with the tires.. If that.. I usually get around 18-19 in the winter. Alittle higher in the summer. :)

My last trip to Boston from home averaged 20.2 going over and coming back 21.3. Alot of that was at 75 plus on I 80 coming back across Pa. Thats including running around Boston up the coast into NH etc. Thats with the roof rack and OME lift. plus the ARB hanging out there. Of course running 245-70 Destination ATs helps some, also have my own homebuilt air intake, flow master muffler etc. I also angled down the plate on the bottom of the ARB about 3 inches to provde a little aero effect, but when you drive a brick thats about all you can do At least I am not driving one of those stupid looking Prius that my boss has!

As far as manufactures advertised hp gains, they dyno tune the engine with thier product to get the most hp they can. Thats why a good tune is so important when doing mods, a good programer can make a world of deference in the results you get from your mods, I found this out when modding my ranger. The headers and intake gave you a boost but was kind of disapointing, untill I reprogramed with the bama tunner, it was like a different truck. I don't believe the factory exhaust and intakes are as restrictive as they once were, but there's still room for improvement.

Hey guys and gals! I am insulted! Yous all didn't even mention page 17 of the same great magazine. And wait there will be more Liberty articles in the future! This is the ONLY magazine that is willing to write supportive and technical articles on the KJ.

Hmm...I just got my Dec. issue like two weeks ago. I swear they are slow getting to me here in Cali. I see them on the shelf before my issue arrives. Maybe my mail man is reading them before he delivers to me?

Al, Congrats on the plug you got in the mag. I always look forward to seeing if I "know" anybody in there. They've been very good to the Liberty and LOST members in their writings. One of the main reasons I got a subscription from them.
later, mike
