| Post subject: | Buying Tires at Costco |
I am shopping around for new tires and was considering getting the BFG AT's at Costco. I was comparison shopping at Sears and the guy there told me that Costco wouldn't put on these tires on my renny because they were LT and not P tires. They wouldn't even service them for punctures or anything because of this. Has anybody encountered this problem? I'm thinking the guy at Sears was talking smack about Costco to make a sale but who knows. Besides, he was selling the Dueler AT's for $175 which is a heck of a lot more than what I could get them for. |

lol, yea, Ive read this a couple times that different places are like that. They usually look out for soccer moms b/c they do not have a clue about stuff like that. They look at other people the same and believe they do not know anything about tires. The LT tire is just a truck tire. It have stiffer side walls and makes the ride alittle more rough.. |

I really liked the way the LT tires felt on my KJ when I had them on. They felt more firmly planted to the ground. I've heard though that places like Costco will not mount tires if they're bigger than stock or a different rating, etc. They just want to steer clear of any type of liability issues in the future, I guess. If you're looking for 245/75's check out my thread in the For Sale forum! Hope this helps! |

When I had my tires mounted at Costco I just brought the wheels/tires and told them they were from a Grand Cherokee. |

Haha. liar!! Leave the jeep on jack stands and just take the rims like unixxx said. Tell them to balance the tires and all, then take them home and put them on the jeep. Drive it to a different place to get an alignment.. |

America's Tire/Discount Tire stores are as cheap as Costco, better variety, and they don't care. They like checking out the tricked rigs and asking questions as they put on your tires. |

FWIW, Sams club had no problem mounting 33" Dunlop mud rovers on my XJ and they have been back for a free rotation & balance w/ no questions asked. They also had the best price at the time. |

I purchased BFGs from Costco. They'll put on LTs however only the size that is recommended for you vehicle in their computer. LOVE the tires and price however Costco tire service sucks. I don't know if you have Les Schwab in your area... I'm used to people running to your vehicle to rotate your tires etc. At Costco, including various locations, I have to wait forever. |

Costco is only playing by the rules. Theres not need to get mad at them. They absolutely will not put any tires on your vehicle if it does not match the range of OEM sizes for your ride. The reason for this is to avoid any potential lawsuits ranging anywhere from idiots complaining that Costco is responsible for the ultra low profile tires on their Hummer blowing out on a pothole, to issues with rubbing, or that the different tire size they requested somehow caused them to have an accident. Any lawsuits or dissatisfaction issues would cause Costco's prices to go up, and it might just be reflected in the foodstuffs and other departments. Prices are kept low by following the OEM recommended tire sizes. And besides, you can just buy the tires you want from Costco and look up a Tirerack approved installer in your area, who will usually do tire installs pretty cheap. |

It's a moot point for me now as Costco no longer stocks Bridgestones. For a good price I have to buy my Dueler A/T Revo's online. |
