Post subject:  Anyone use one of these on a hitch mounted bike rack????

I was looking at new bike racks online because the one i have moves and bounces alot on bumps (hitch mounted) and it won't let me open the tailgate, but then i found this on one of the websites and i think it would solve the movements and bouncing. I figured if this works i could live with not being able to open the tailgate when i go biking. Has anyone used or had any experience with these.

Check out the Saris cycle-on. It worth every penny and then some. It doesn't touch anything but the tires on your bike. So it works regardless fo the frame design. It also won't scratch up your frames or your truck.

I have a Specialized Stumpjumper FSR expert disc 100 *(alumunim full suspension moutain bike), and a Giant TCR limited (carbon fiber road bike) and it works great with both. It also only takes about 10 seconds to put a bike on or take it off.

I dont like he hich mount one they all seem to bounce around to me
I got one that mounts to the spare and it does fine
and just like my jeeps if the bikes get scrached that is OK cause its only paint I dont worry about such trivial things
also with the tire mount if you put 2 bikes on the 3 bike one like I got you can put them on the outter most portion and use the remaining par as a rack for things like your tent and stuff that can easily be tied down you can not do that with the hich racks
also I would fear them getting cought on a root or something going down hill

I have the four bike mount at Wall Mark . It has the pin to let it down to open the window, but it is not a good idea when it has bikes on it. it comes with either an 2" or 1 7/8 and worked well when we went to the Keys.
Its in TN they are using it on a Subaru it works and you can lock the bikes on to it. I gues they could still get you wheels.

I've used the Saris hitch-mount for a couple years now. Pretty decent, but it does interfere with the spare tire. A short extension brings the carrier further away from the spare so 2 bikes can be mounted, but clearances will still render the rear gate unusable. Basicly, it's a well made carrier that handles bikes well. Like all hitch-mounted carriers, though, it should be removed before off-roading on any terrain other than flat.

I have the Yakima Big Horn 4bike that drops down for rear access. I can't open the gate all the way, but can get in and also can get the spare off. I solved the bounce/rattle problem a lot cheaper. I put a section of old bicycle inner tube over the bar. Doesn't move around as much and I don't hear it anymore.

I've been thining about getting a front mount receiver just for my bikes, then I can tow, or put a cargo rack on the rear. If nothing else, it would keep the tailgate clear for access.Anyone using a bike rack up front?

I have a Yakima 4-bike rack, but needed an extention (7") inorder for the thing to reach around the spare.

I've seen pics of a shaved rear hatch, try that an mount the spare on the roof. With a lift and knobby tires, that'd be cool.

I have a saris bike rack that handles 4 bikes and it straps them in very securely and everything but the bike rack moves alot down around the hitch should i just put something around the hitch part to make it bigger therefore it will have less room to move around. But i guess no one has used that hitch stabilizer thingy?

While using a bike rack up front may seem like a good idea, I wouldn't be too surprised if you were to receive a summons as it impairs your vision and may also block your lights.

Post subject:  Performance 4-bike hitch rack

I went on the cheap and bought the Performance 4-bike hitch mount rack. It fits with the stock tire and does not rattle. When I get a bigger tire, it will still fit, but I expect it will rattle some as it will be extended almost all the way out of the hitch.
