Post subject:  Rear Defroster coil fell off...

I noticed as i was just driving home that my rear defroster wasnt working. it seems that one of the coils snapped off where the metal prong was secured to the window. is there anyway to re-attach this myself or would this be a dealer thing?
i'll have pics in the morning to go along with my poor explanation (its too cold and dark out to get them now)

If its just that the plastic connector came off the metal tab then it should just snap right back on; I just went out to mine and took it off to verify this. If the tab came off the window or the plastic end on the coiled wire is broken so that it won't connect securely then it will be a dealer item.

from what i could make out in the dark it looked like the glue (?) holding the tab to the window was the source of the snapping off of the tab in question...

Should be solder holding it on. Probably an easy fix for the dealer.

when i first posted that last night it was close to 20*... go winter!

it looks like it was the solder that came off the window. i took pictures with my phone and am waiting for them to show up in my email...

how much would that be to fix @ the dealer?

In my opinion probably way too much, but I would hate to pull out the soldering iron myself and ruin it...

I'd guess if you're really lucky it'll be around $50, if not I wouldn't be surprised to see them charge around $100 (although I hope not).

These are fixable for under $10. Do a search on this site as this was answered awhile back. there are various products to fix this. Sorry, can't remember when the post was originally.

Edit: found it.
It was under defogger.

i went out to pepboys and bought a kit to repair it, but the kit says that it needs to be at least 50* for the copper epoxy to cure correctly. wont be that hot anytime soon here (its currently 12*)
