| Post subject: | Where do I find a fuel door? |
So the wife is driving home last night and comes up on a busy four way stop. She stops, waits her turn while watching traffic then goes when it's her turn. Just as soon as she gets half way through the cross walk and into the intersection two joggers come running up to the side of the jeep yelling that they had the right of way. It was a dark unlit intersection and she didn't even see them till they started yelling. So she takes off through the intersection and one of the joggers runs up to the jeep and rips off the fuel door while the other is flipping her off and throwing rocks at her. Then they threw the fuel door at her but she was to frightened to stop and get it. So, she is at home crying after being assaulted by some jerks running down the road in the dark, and now I need to find a replacement fuel door for a 2002 Jeep Liberty. I've been looking on line and see ones for every other model Jeep, but nothing for Liberty. ANY HELP? |

Call up your dealer body shop. They can probably order the door in the correct color for you. |

I put in a search request with Auto Salvage Yard Members , and will call the dealer today to get a price. I'm just surprised that no one sells anything online. Even on eBay you can find them for Grand Cherokee, Commander, Compass, and about 20 different ones for Wrangler, but nothing for Liberty. |

Who says jogging relieves stress? Those two joggers couldn't have been joggers unless they were running from the law. Geesh! I'd avoid that part of town. She should report this to the police. Best of luck with finding a new gas cover. |

If they were truly joggers than most likely they run the same route every day or so at the same time. I'd stake it out and see if you can get them arrested. Gee, must have been an attempted car jacking! At the very least they should arrest em for vandalism. |

Shoot, I guess that makes sense that it's unpainted... The dealer body shop probably wouldn't charge very much to shoot it in a matching faded color |

They are called pedestrians and have the right of way when in an intersection. I'm not trying to be a jerk, but as a bicyclist I can't tell you how many times I've almost been run down by cell phone talking, makeup applying, latte drinking people in SUVs. So I'm a bit sensitive to the issue. If they grabbed the fuel door while your wife's truck was moving through the intersection she must have come awfully close to them. |

Thanks for the part #, I found one online for $20 and a forum member just offered one for $15. So I think I have it takin' care of thanks to you guys. I also told her she should have filed a police report, although the police in Las Vegas won't even respond to a car theft anymore let alone a call of vandalism. |

I am a cyclist/tirathlete and although they have the "right of way" ... that DOES NOT give them the "right" to verbally assault a driver or cause property damage on a vehicle. It is also the resposibility of the cylclist/jogger to make themselves reasonably visible to traffic. There is NO EXCUSE for that kind of behavior. If it were me in your shoes, I would find out if they run the same route and rent a Crossing Guard Uniform with a handheld STOP SIGN and help them across the intersection. Then I would give them some lighting that they could wear on thier arm and a reflective strip for thier ankle. Then I would demand an apology to my wife for thier "over the top behavior". From Detroit doc: If they grabbed the fuel door while your wife's truck was moving through the intersection she must have come awfully close to them. Without being there it is very hard to say who is at fault. It sounded like they ran up to her when she was in the crosswalk already. I also wonder if the "Joggers" actually stopped before they crossed the street or just assumed they had the right of way and didn't bother to stop. As for passing close, they ran up to her vehicle to verbally take it out on her...If you think about it...the fuel door is on the drivers side of the KJ which means if they met her in the crosswalk, they would have had to cross the lane that carries traffic in the opposite direction. Too many factors to blame one or the other. |

Cacher123 wrote: Quote: STOP SIGN and help them across the intersection was that help or "help" It was definitely the "latter" I might even find out if they make running shoes for "grown ups" that have the "lights" built into the heel that blink everytime they make a step... I bet thier reaction would be different if a guy was driving the KJ or 3-4 guys with Rugby Jersey on. I doubt the rocks or fuel door incident would have happenned. |

OK, let me try to explain this situation, again. It a very busy intersection with four lanes in each direction. A four way stop, night time with no lighting on the intersection or the road. She was through the cross walk and into the intersection when the jogger ran INTO the intersection and grabbed the fuel door and broke it off, then threw it at the Jeep. She was busy watching six lanes of cars to get through the intersection she wasn't watching who was running down the sidewalk. Yes, a pedestrian has the right of way, but in a busy intersection like that they also need common sense to know not to just run through a dark busy intersection thinking that the world is going to stop just for you. |

Good luck getting your fuel door on. Sorry your wife had to deal with such jerks on her own. Anyone that's biking, jogging, walking, hopping, skipping, skateboarding or cartwheeling across a vehiclular intersection and does not make eye contact with the vehicles in their path, but choses to move forward anyway, is an IDIOT. You will, one day, get run over. Pedestrians have the right of way when the WALK signal is lit. If there is not WALK signal, the pedestrians have the right-of-way after they stop, just like all the other traffic (vehicular, pedalled or foot). And, just like in a car or on a motorcycle, you only have the right-of-way if everyone sees you. It's not a bicycle/jogger free-for-all out there. If someone ever does that to my wife (and my KJ), you'd better change your jogging patterns. A police report will be filed. And them catching you would be the best thing that could happen. |

Cowboytwang, Sorry to hear about your fuel door. Luckily it's a pretty inexpensive part. I agree, there's no excuse for that wild behavior. Who acts that way when they're jogging, anyway? I was a runner for quite a few years and runner's high mellows you out. I don't get this. Those guys are chumps! In what city did this occur? One thing I'm grateful for here in Indianapolis is that we have many "greenways" and multi-use trails that bikers, roller bladers, and joggers all share. They connect different parts of the metro area. Pretty cool. We even have our own mountain bike park! (Still waiting for the 4x4 park. Yeah, right!) The best part is that these fitness trails keep people off crowded downtown sidewalks and out of busy intersections so run-ins like your wife's can be avoided. |

Some poples kids man!!! I gues they never got taught how to cross the street when they were younger huh?! People that take the whole "pedestrians have the right of way" thing overboard kill me!!!! Use some frickin commonsense and don't forget why road ways are there in the first place!!!!!! VEHICLES!!!!!! Hope your wife isn't to worked up over the incident man. |

Gheez that is crazy! She coudnt have been going too fast anyhow if they actually caught up with her, sounds like a couple of jerks just causing trouble. One actually took the time to pick up some rocks and throw them at her! You ever see those anti carjacking devices they made awhile back Okay that MIGHT be a little extreme, but in some cases it is certainly called for. |
