I just changed my tranny fluid and backed out of the driveway. When I put it in drive it wouldn't go, I put it in reverse, no go! It is sitting at the end of my driveway and wont move. Any ideas how I can get it to drive? I let it run for a while the fluid is at the correct level. |

it's either an air bubble or not enough fluid. get up on jack stands then put it through all the gears so theres no load on it. check fluid (with engine running and transmission in park) |

How much fluid did you put in? It should have been between 4 and 5 quarts if you have the 42RLE in your '03. |

Make sure the tranny fluid is at proper level.. When its cold, its not full when the dipstick says its full.. I would say check it in N while the tranny is hot, but.. You could of put the filter on wrong like "RS4MTNITRO" said? |

Yeah, I think the filter popped off by the o-ring. Transfer case is in gear. fluid level is at full. It's still sitting on the street. I had a neighbor help me try to push it up the driveway, but it was too steep. I'll have to try again tomorrow. 10 degrees outside, so no chance of doing it in the street. Thanks for the help peeps |

Actually it's the exact opposite. The colder the fluid the lower it reads on the dipstick. In very cold weather, with a cold trans, a fully filled transmission may not even register on the dipstick. Sorry to hear about having to drop the pan again. It always goes easier the second time you do something. I did my transmission without a service manual. It went fine. 2 days later when I putting the fluid in containers for the recycling center I found an o-ring in my drain pan. Oops |

But to check the fluid in the tranny, it must be warm and in N. If I checked my fluid when it was cold and in P, which ive done, it will read about 1/4-1/2in to full. Edit: I guess some fluid drains back into the pan when its off.. When you put it in N, it fills the Torque up and pumps fluid through the tranny cooler.. |

Sounds like the issue with mine that I was telling you about, Baker. Mine wasn't that extreme, but I'm guessing either the o-ring, or the flat (return?) filter is the culprit. Make sure the o-ring is still up there flush. I know mine was a pain to get to sit flush until I got the socket with the EXACT same diameter as the o-ring. ....aaaahhhh, me see dropping of tranny pan in your future...aahhhh Keep us posted with what you find. |

Got it moving again. Can't feel my toes or fingers (17 Degrees outside) Crappy Napa filter O-ring was too loose and let the filter spout fall out. I picked up a new filter from the dealer and the o-ring is nice and tight. Hopefully this is the end of my tranny pan pulling. |
