I do a lot of fishing, in fact I guide in the summer. Is there an after market rod storage system for the KJ that will hold 6 1/2 foot rods? Preferably in the interior. |

Well, I'm assuming that you have looked at the usual suspects Cabela's and Gander Mountain. I know I have, and no luck. So, I had to improvise. While headed to Crane Lake every year, I used to have mine in a 6" diameter PVC pipe (painted) with caps on both ends this way I can either attach it on top of the roof basket or put it in the back with the rear seat folded down, and the passenger "Back" pushed back. The camo painted PVC pipe on top of the KJ looks like a bazooka launcher! The other thing you can do in a DIY manner is to create a flat rod stand with about a 30 degree slanted base. The base would lay flat in the cargo space, and when you put the rods in, they would be held at a incline as they approached the front seat. This would allow for the eyelets and tips not to rub agains either the back seat or the front seat. |

I would rig up something to store them along the inside of the roof. Maybe you can utilize the coat hanger hooks (do we even have coat hooks?) for mounting points. It seems to me that would be the most "out of the way" solution. |

I'd like to gear somehing up for my 9ft salmon rods right now I pass them through assembled do so the reel is up by the passengers feet and it fits all the way back to the hatch. Now we just do this running between the pools |

You could make a tube for the roof rack out of appropriate diameter ABS or PVC pipe with a cap clued on the front and a clean out with a screw in cap on the back. Like they use on ladder racks on commercial work trucks and vans for carrying pipe & conduit. |

Google Rodmount RodLoft Pro, looks like it will work in both instances mentioned. |

I use the surfcaster lockable rod rack on my 2003 rene and it works great. It mounts on the roof racks and i carry rods from 5' to 11' with no problem. The only downside is that it is a bit expensive almost $400 with shipping. Hope this helps. |

Ski and snow board racks work well for storing fishing rods and they are lockable but I prefer keeping them inside and out of sight. Finding some way to mount those rod holders to the roof would be nice, I don't know how far you can screw into your liner. I usually travel with the rear seat flat and a home made matress to lay on top. My rods fit nicely on the side/under the pad and they are protected by the thickness of the matress. Someone makes a fishing rod roof rack that completely encloses the reels too, Cabelas? Bass Pro Shops? |

I fish a lot and have the same problem as you. Like putting 5 quarts in a gallon jug. Sometimes with the rear seat folded down I put them in and let the rod tips rest on the console. Or you can put them from in the rear side door the reel end on the floor leaning to the back and side. I would have to take a picture to show you but I get them in. If your hauling people also your out of luck. I actually bought a couple of 2 piece rods to make life easy. A lot of pro's are using 2 and 3 piece type rods because they have to fly not drive at times. The rods have come a long ways , they don't come a part when you cast and still have good backbone. Another option is mount 6 " PCV pipe to your load bars on your roof rack (if you have them). You can put a threaded cap on one end and cap the other end. |

spoonplugger1, That's exactly what I was looking for, thanks. By the way did you get your name from one of the greats, Buck Perry? |
