Hi everyone,

I have a 2002 and I haven't had to use the heater for several years as I lived in Hawaii. But now that I moved to the mountains in New Mexico, it's freezing. The heater will only work for a few seconds, then it cools. I can adjust the temperature dial and the heat will start up again, but just for a few seconds. Does anyone happen to have an idea what might be causing this and how easy it would be to get parts/fix/etc?

Thanks so much!
Katrina

It could be that the heater core is blocked or air locked. Either case will give you little or no heat.

I apologize for asking but how's your coolant level? I like the heater core idea. It would be nice to have a temp gauge in these things. The cheap fix may be to flush your coolant and change your thermostat. Good luck.

Someone else very recently posted on this same problem...a coolant flush (w/ a machine, not a drain and fill) fixed it for them...look for that thread...it was recent

Thanks for all the advice! We ended up traveling 2 hours away for a shopping trip and got stuck. Our engine overheated and started the alarm. We figured everything was ok with our coolant levels as we just had them flushed and ready for the season a few weeks ago. Turns out, we have a crack in our radiator. Have any of you gotten a crack in yours? The place we went to is owned by the place that flushed our coolant as it was the only thing nearby. They are telling us it's from excess vibration. We haven't done any off roading for a long time as we just moved and have been extremely busy. I'm wondering if the company that flushed our coolant didn't refill it and that cracked the radiator. What do you all think? I'm going to post this seperately too just incase anyone else had this happen. I'm taking it next week to a Jeep service shop to have the radiator inspected to see if they can figure why it cracked.

Search around the forum a little. I'm still new around here but I recall reading something about cracks in the upper corner being common.

Quit a few owners have had cracked radiators. They all seem to be on the drivers side.
