| Post subject: | Stock NGK Spark Plug Question... |
What are the stock NGK spark plugs? Are they Iridium or something else? I found this model number on the NGK site: ZFR6FIX-11 for the Iridiums. Could anyone tell me if this number matches the stock plugs? Thanks! i'm looking to go back to the stockers since the Bosch Platinum +2s seem to be lowering my performance. Thanks a bunch! |

Not sure about the whole Iridium thing, but the part number they gave me at the stealership is SPZFR6F11G. Hope this helps! I'm planning on yanking out my Bosch platinums too. Maybe this weekend. Anybody know if the factory NGKs come pre-gapped? |

That part number comes back most closely to the V-Power plug which states that it is an Original Equipment Manufacturer, and/or Original Equipment Service Part. That must be it. DC probably just adds the SP prefix onto it since I tried it as you wrote it and it came back with negative results on the NGK site. |

Ah, yep. The part number is the Mopar part number. |

Yep, regular old V-powers work fine in my KJ's. I sell Bosch and still don't use them myself. they are a good plug but I have always used NGK's with great luck. |

I'm just curious as to how you can actually tell its really the spark plugs that are lowering your performance and not something else? What telltale signs do you look for? |

I have always noticed a slight improvement in starting and driveability plus a little more mpg after changing to fresh NGK's. 25k miles seems to be a good time to change them. If you do them yourself it costs under an hour of your time and around $12. |

I'm not sure if it really was the spark plugs because I don't remember if I changed them right around the time the gas prices went up, however I do know that when the prices went up my mileage decreased considerably - almost 3mpg! I went in to get my LBJs replaced today under the recall (more on this in my post about this) and bought some of the stock plugs. At $2.95 a piece I really couldn't complain since this is what any retailer would sell them for if not more. I'll be replacing them soon, so I'll keep everyone posted regarding whether or not my mileage goes back up. Thanks for the replies! |

Wow I feel lucky as my local auto parts guy charges me $1.75-1.99 a plug for NGK's. Even at $3 ea. it is cheap quality time spent w/ your Jeep. |

I might be doing mine on Sunday too. Anyone know if the NGKs from the stealership are pre-gapped? |

Mine were. I checked each one for sure but they were all spot on. |

I replaced my OE spark plugs with NGK's. They were pre-gapped. They came with an additional washers (i guess to adjust how they're seated?) I left them on there because the old ones had them also... |
