| Post subject: | Rust-oleum Hammered look paint? |
I painted my utility trailer with this stuff a while back and I liked the look, it's kind of textured. I bought some spare wheels and decided after pricing some powder coaters that I would just spray-bomb them instead, my question is should I clear coat them when I'm finished? I've been told the this kind of paint cures over time to be "hard as nails" and I don't know if it's true. If it is true, touch-up may not be required very often( I hope) but I dont have any long term experiance with this paint, and I am hoping someone here might. Any opinions? |

I know Rock Lizard swears by the stuff. Maybe he'll chime in. I painted my skid plates with it after the factory paint/powdercoat rubbed off and I must say that it stands up well. |

Well, I painted 2 of the 4 after I buffed out the curb damage and I think they look good, I will not be installing new tires on them for a few weeks or maybe a month or two so I guess the paint will have plenty of time to harden. My only worry is that (when clean) they will be dull looking ( not shinny like the rest of the Jeep). we shall see. |

Just put some kinda tire shine on them to keep them shiney. I bought something called Meguairs All Season Dressing and use it under the hood and in the fender wheels. You can only find it online though. Any good tire shine will keep them shiney. I use the all season dressing on the lip of the fender that is painted in the fender wheel. Makes cleaning them ALOT easier. Edit: How about some pics? |

I painted my al's upper arms with the rustoleum hammered almost a year ago, and they still look great. |

when i first started to paint my skink sliders with that stuff, it scratched easily. i was really worried about how it would stand up; however, 6 months in and rocks will take it off, but not easily. i'm glad RL pointed me to it. |
