| Post subject: | Transmission Woe.... Update 12/22 |
So I'm driving the KJ this morning and about 5 minutes in to the drive I started to hear a whine noise that sounded like a fire siren. I looked around and saw no flashing lights and at that point realized it was the Jeep. The noise stopped when I took foot of gas, rose higher when giving more gas. I coaseted in to my destination and 2 hours later when church was over we left and the noise was not present...until about 5 minutes later. Then the tranny start slipping and feeling disconected, I pushed the OD off button and it got a little better but still had issues the entire way home. I backed in to the drive (in case I needed a tow) and the reverse was very delayed before it kicked in. Tranny fluid is not low and is not burnt, any clues what the deal is. Got to call the dealer tomorrow. This KJ has not seen much off road besides the York Jeep show obstacle course and a few dirt back roads and a construction site or two nothing serious. |

Is the power-train still under warranty? How many miles does it have? Could just be a bad sensor or solenoid. Did you get any lights on the dash or anything? Hopefully it will be something simple. Ive yet to read of a tranny failing in the libby.. |

I had no light, signals and engine temp was at half. Only warning was that my washer fluid is low. I bought this 03 in 04 as a Chrysler certified used car so it should be covered. |

Are you bringing it in to the dealership? How many miles are on your KJ? |

I dropped it off at the dealership (topping off washer fluid did not help...LOL) they are going to try and "fit it in". My KJ has 36,800 but I did buy it Chrysler Certified used so this should, no the shall be covered under warranty. |

Dealer caller this afternoon...asked who had serviced my tranny because the level is high and not looking like ATF4. I replied no one sir, except the 5star tech who serviced my Jeep when it was classified a Chrysler Certified Used Vehicle 2 years ago right before I puchased it. "Oh, OK he said" then he said the front pump is dead, the torque converter is locked up and the were pulling the pan off as we spoke to see what else. |

Dealer just called and said that the cost of the things they would be fixing on the tranny has reached the level where DC says to replace the whole thing. They have a tranny on order from the Newark, DE depot and if they get it (as it is the only one Newark has in stock) I should have my KJ back tomorrow evening. If not then we have to wait for one to come from Milwaukee and then it will be until early next week. |

Sounds like you fried your Torque converter and it took the rest of the tranny with it? Sounds strangely familiar, what tranny do you have? |

Is all that costing you anything? Ask them which tranny you have, as an '03 you could have either. |

That is great for you, su cks for me! Back in '02, the dealer had to completely rebuild my tranny, and they tried gto blame me for it, and even if I paid, they were only going to rebuild it!!! So I have a rebuilt tranny, and it has never been the same, but 4 different techs all say it is fine... doesn't have the power she used to. Glad you got a new tranny!!! |

Yeah I am happy to be getting a new one. Although I may still fight the $100 as it has 36800 miles on the Odometer. If it was under 36K I'd be getting this for free. |

800 miles out of warranty, that is classic. You've been in good spirits about this tranny issue all along, that helps a lot, I might be a little more upset about it... which doesn't do any good. You must have a good dealership service dept. working with you. |

I have a good dealership...they sponsor the York Pa Jeep Show...and I have an extra car that I can use so I'm not to inconvienced. My 88 Olds 98 comes in handy when there is a DD in the shop or when gas prices are super high as the Olds gets more than double the MPG of the KJ. |
