That is a picture that I was going to use as a model for cleaning up the electrical wires I have from 8 overhead lights, on-board air and a bunch of other stuff.

I got my '02 apart today and it's not like that at all.

1) It's a big chunk of metal that really leaves no room for anything behind it, not this thinner kind in the picture.
2) It's not hinged at the bottom. It has 4 clips and the 2 metal prongs that hold it in, instead of this that has the hinge at the bottom and 2 clips at the top. I DO have the area where a hinge would go on the dash trim, but my panel doesn't have anything to go there.

Is this a design from the newer KJs or do I just have a screwing Knee panel?

The 02s are different than any other year..on the 02 you are right..its just a panel...no hinge at all..so it makes it a little hard to do what shows in that pic..I have all kinds of wiring in that compartment, just nothing thats attached to the cover panel

time to take the knee panel off Amber's 06 and see if I can get them to fit each other (my 02 panel in hers and her 06 panel in mine)

:)

that's whats awsome about having a leased 06 besides mine.

my 2005 knee bolster looks just like that one, so I'd say it's probably a model year difference

Yeah, it was a model difference I guess.

My '02 now has this nice hinged one and the lease now has the crappy one with the huge metal pain-in-the-arse prong that a pain to get off and just plain sucks.

I might have to relocate my CB. where it sits stops the knee panel from swinging all the way down.

That panel has since had another relay and some more wiring added when I put in the rear facing lights...and the last fuse slot is filled now as well. :) I think if I needed I could still fir another fuse block on it.

Whatever your solution, I highly recommend labeling the wires in some fashion. As you can see from my wiring there are quite a few wires.
