The last time I went out on a ride I went down some pretty narrow paths lined with brush, now it looks like 13 ex-girlfriends had fun with the side of my rig. I'm sure it will buff out though. Has anyone thought of buying long sheets of magnet roll and cutting it to fit the doors and other large surface areas that get brush burn/trail rash ect.??

Never heard of that being done, sounds like a good idea though. You could even get some custom offroading graphics put on there 8)

Some have mentioned using this stuff. Image
Thats just the application photo.

Here is the finished look: Image

We call that Arizona Pinstriping. It's the mark of a well travelled vehicle! A scratched Jeep is a happy Jeep.

It has been discussed in the past but I have yet to see anyone do it. I will be looking back into it though as my In-Laws will definately be needing it for their new JK if they plan on following me on some of the trails around here. I doubt they are going to want custom trail striping on their new vehicle.

I just checked that website and I can't understand what them frogs are talking about. I can't even figure out how to convert euros into dollars...what the heck does 426,42 mean???? I ended up with the kit costing $56,261 now that can't be right!!! Maybe there comma is our decimal point, in that case, the kit costs $562, thats a bit more reasonable, but I can buy a 10' x 24" wide roll of the magnet for $37.50. I will prob use 2 rolls, ~$80. Thats a big difference!!!

HAHAHAHA! $56,261!!!!!

I know most people are not as deicated as me, but on some local trails, I will spend around 30min or so just walking the trials and cutting stuff down with a machete. Given that the trails are only a couple miles long. When I go with the midwest guys, its usually on wide open rocks and if its not, they will hold the stuff back for me. 8)

I think one euro is equal to about $1.32 USD

The side magnets would be pretty easy to make but you would need some very flexible magnet amterial to make the special "hood protector" on the page. Actually after going back and looking at the "hood protector", you can see that they just made "relief cuts" to make it conform to curved surfaces.

I would like to make a set in the old German Winter Camo pattern to match the White Sport CRD of mine...

Spray the whole side of the jeep with this stuff:

http://www.duplicolor.com/products/shield.html

Wont wash off with rain, but will come off with pressure washer or when you wash your vechicle. Cost me $19 CDN, I did the edge of my hood and the grill of my CRD for the winter.

Considered doing my wheels, but with the heat from braking I didnt want to chance it.

They give instructions to make sure the surface and magnet are clean before you apply. The other thing you have to worry about a bit it traveling at highway speeds with the magnets on...they are not meant for speed.

OMG that guys fender just flew right off!! and look, now its stuck to the exit sign! Hmm, that kind of reminds me of a few cars I have had

So has anyone tried any of this stuff? I am especially interested in the spray on protectant. I am wondering if it would protect against scrapes from branches and things like that.

My Jeep looks like it's been raped by a porcupine, so it must be a very happy Jeep.

But better. He had them the length of the doors, one nested into the next. Took me a minute to get why but I caught on.

So, they're out there. Somewhere.

I ride with a guy that covers almost every sq inch of his H3 with tape and magnets. The poor sensored word has blown his front diff twice and lost a CV. His most recent front diff problem happened while trying to strap his little brother out of a swamp hole in reverse. His paint looks great though!!
