I noticed this leak today when doing a routine inspection under the KJ. It's a fresh leak, as the oil is wet to the touch, and black-ish in color. Probably some kind of blown seal is my guess, but I'm no expert. I wish I would've noticed the leak sooner, but the engine skid plate is collecting the dripping oil. So, before I have my dealership check it out, what do you think is the problem? Here's a wide shot from the passenger side:
A closer shot from the driver side:

Thanks in advance, gang! T.J. |

That's an easy one, your front diff pinion seal is leaking. |

Thanks for the quick reply! Do you have any idea what a dealership might charge for parts + labor? I have the extended warranty, so I'm not too concerned if it's a major repair. Is this the kind of warranty claim a dealership will try to deny because I've operated the vehicle off road or lifted it? Thanks again, T.J. |

Agreed on the source of the leak - but I have no idea how much the dealer would charge to correct the problem. |

Not sure on how much a dealer will charge, the new seal will probally run about $15-$20 and probally 1-2 hours worth of labor. It's an easy seal to replace if you have a mechanical ability. My guess is the dealer will charge way more than $100 to change it and you could do it yourself for under $30. |

Mechanical ability's not an issue. Time is what I lack, especially during the holidays. |
