OK, Im looking to buy a roof rack for my liberty.

I have the large renegade bars on top and I am looking for towers, crossbars, and eventually a bike carrier.

Thule or Yakima?

Does anyone have any experience with these? Who makes one that fits those large rails on the renegades?

Pics would be great.

I just put Thule load bars and brackets on my 04 Sport. They fit great and will probably fit the Renny just fine but be prepared for more noise. Mine howl going down the road so I'm considering ordering the ferring too. The standard kit sits a few inches over the factory rails so if you want low profile these are not the best choice. I personally like the utility look.

While I can't comment on the way that the rack meets the bars, I have owned a yakima for my Golf and I will be getting the new towers for my sport and wouldn't consider getting a thule.

Unless you are into light weight road bikes, I would avoid thule because the tire straps aren't as rugged as yakima, the fork skewers aren't as beefy and the latch mechanism is questionable.

My yakima steelheads are great. They are all metal where they meet the fork, the lock mechanism is great and the tire straps are tough. I also have a yakima that holds the front tyre (since I have a 20mm thru axle) and it's my favorite tray.

I would also note that thule doesn't seem to hold up as well as yakima in the weather. I have had my rack since 2003 (purchased used) and it still looks new. I have yet to see a thule on any car that looks like it's in great shape (they rust)

check out www.yakima.com to see the different options for the renegade. I'm going to be ordering my towers from my local bike shop.

Good luck!
-Mark

I looked on the Yakima site and It says they don't currently have a rack to fit my vehicle...

Do they make one that was not meant for the renegade bars but will still fit?

yakima all the way, they d0 make it for your jeep.
48 inch cross bars, lowrider feet and some sks locks, good to go, get the load warrior basket it fits nicely and has bars on top that you can mount other things to. i dont care what anybody says, yakima is the best looking and most usefull rack out.
