Post subject:  badge removal?

has anyone removed the liberty emblems on the driver and passanger side doors? i want to remove them for a cleaner look, but i'm not sure how they are mounted. i was just going to use the old dental floss technique, but i want to be sure that i won't mess up the paint.

I know others have used the dental floss trick so it should work. They are stuck on with the same old double sided sticky emblem tape that most are stuck on with.

it wont mess up the paint, but you'll have three alignment holes showing, unless you were planning to fill them up...

Grab the wifes (or sisters, etc.) hair dryer and blast the letter you plan to remove for a few minutes before sticking fishing line between the emblom and paint. The heat will help make the glue more plyable and should help keep everything in one piece as you pull it away from the body.

Good Luck.

There aren't any alignment holes. They just stick on.

Once you get the actual logo off, Griot's Garage makes a pretty good adhesive remover I've used in the past to get adhesive from dealer stickers off. Griot's has some pretty cool stuff.

Let us know how it goes!

Also, if your Liberty has seen a lot of sun - when you remove the badges be prepaired for a little bit of contrast between the "fresh paint" and the "aged" section.

Good luck and does anyone know if I can get replacement badges from Mopar? Most of mine are flaking off now

I removed the "65th Anniversary" badges the night I brought ours home. I didn't want a faded spot. They came off fairly easily with a heat gun and some patience.

That is fine.. Us older Libertys didn't get that cool center trim with the embossed (?) Liberty logo. :D Instead we get the chrome stuff that flakes foo after 1 year

Yes take em off , take em all off!!  I removed mine with the hair dryer method and worked fine. Mine are all gone, hood , both sides rear everything. Looks so much better. Glue is sort of hard to remove but you can just spray some WD40 on it also then wax good afterwards.

had my emblems replaced by the dealer just before the warranty went out they used a plastic butter knife thingy a hair dryer and some starting fluid to get them off and clean up the area to put the new ones on. btw spray the starting fluid on the rag not the paint then rub it off. This is also the preferred method here at the bobcat dealership I work at when we get a transfer unit in.

Question I am going to remove my badges as well and was wondering if this will also work for the chrome side dorr trim? I have an 07 so there is no separate individual lettering just the long chrome piece with the embedded liberty logo.

what is under this piece? will it look bad?
