Curious what the inlet and outlet size of the KJs exhaust is? |

mandrel bent 2.5 inch pipe (plenty of flow) |

that should mean that replacing the stock muffler with a better flowing model would be just as effective as doing the whole catback thing...right? |

You could always go with a larger size exhaust pipe for the catback, like 3", but I dont think thered be much of a point to it since 2.5 is pretty big, though im no expert on flow requirements. I was planning on just having an exhaust shop weld in a glasspack, that would sound wicked. |

Its actually a 2.5" Outside Diameter Mandrel bent pipe. You could upgrade to a 2.5" Inside Diameter pipe and have a little better tone, but unless the shop is giving you one heck of a deal, I wouldent throw down the bills to do it. |

i recently put on a flowmaster super 40, sounds pretty good, extra flow, and a lil extra economy. i think the only difference with an entire cat-back system would be if your going to dual outlet. Other than that the piping on the liberty is pretty straight, and mandrel bend 2.5". I dont see a Cat-back being necessary, unless you want to do it yourself. |

Correct.. Unless you want the tip to drop below the rear bumper and have a nice chrome tip. that wouldnt last a minute off-road though. A muffler would be the best thing you could do. |

Tips are nice and all, but I live in a rough climate, and a cromed tip would get trashed. I am really just looking for the beautiful sound, and perhaps a little performance. I had a flowmaster series 40, dual out on my Ranger (actually a B4000), and loved the sound, but the crome didn't do so well in the climate... |

I am getting a Magnaflow on Tuesday. My muffler guy said that don't go chrome but stainless tip would be just fine... |

hey hood297, what did the flowmaster super 40 sound like on the liberty? did it have a loud drone in the cab? did it sound good on the outside? i really want the flowmaster, but im afraid it would make the liberty sound like a rice burner with a big engine. not really looking for that! |

Thats what Im worried about.. I dont want it to drone when going down the hw, but I want it to sound good. I would really like to see a libby in person that has the the flowmaster on it.. |

I have the Borla dual exhaust and have been through some really hairy trails and have only slightly knicked one of the tips,it's faired alot better than my rear hitch. When I get RL rear bumber I'll have the pipes bent up for looks.

How is that setup, true dual or single inlet dual outlet muffler? I think the 3.7 would sound really beefy with a good muffler, seeing as its based on a V8. Sound clips of any/all setups would be greatly appreciated if anyones got them, cause right now I'm trying to make the decision on whats going on my KJ. |

in the 4x2 performance section someone has a clip of a flowmaster 50 series. I love my super 40, at idle and up to about 1600RPM it sounds very much like a v8. Higher RPM's (3000-up) it sounds like it did when you rev'd it with a stock muffler but a little louder. very little interior resonance also, at low RPMs you can hear a low rumble but the higher you get the less you hear it. keep in mind i also have some pretty loud mtr's. in my opinion it sounds nothing like a rice rocket, nothing at all. i can try and get sound clips but every sound clip ive heard hasnt given it justice. If anyone is in the area id be glad to drive a while to meet you to hear it. or even over the telephone, not sure how it would sound but it'd give you an idea if you were in the market. |

I was thinking about maybe putting a Cherry Bomb muffler on the KJ, any opinions on whether it is or is not a good idea or what you think it would sound like??? |

I second that question. A cherry bomb is just a specific kind of glasspack right? I was thinking of replacing my muffler with one also. I had a pair on my dakota w/the 5.2 V8 which sounded amazing. A friend of mine has one on his car which has a DOHC 2.5V6, and it also sounds very nice. Im sure it would sound good on a KJ but yeah sound clips please. I checked the 2wd forum and couldnt find that post with the clips. |
