Hey guys when i had my wrangler with a hard top i loved to drive around with the back window open. Ive noticed with my 05 jeep liberty rocky mountain edition that with it open the interior lights stay on and there is a beeping sound. Is there something i could take out (fuze) that will cancel out the lights and sound?
thanks
chris

Not sure about the lights, but mine came with a sticker that specifically stated not to have it running with the rear window open cuz of the exhaust and carbon monoxide that basically gets funneled into the cabin. Not sure if the problem is bad while driving, but would be an issue while stopped at a light.

Open the rear window then go outside and push the close button in as if the window was closed. It fools the computer that the window is closed.

I agree with that point.. one way to fix that problem is to open your back windows about half way.. In the summer time I drove around like that a bit.. seemed to be clean air I was taking in...

Just a note: Driving with the rear window open will reduce the life span of lift struts. The constant wind pressure that is created causes accelerated pressure loss. A way to avoid this would be to prop the rear window open or use some clamps against the strut so the strut doesn't have to do all of the work....

And yes, CarbonMonoxide can and will enter through the back window... Gas rises and if you're sitting still with that window open, the gas will be directed right into the passenger compartment so be careful

I would think it would be the opposite of that. When the window is closed, they are under pressure. I would think they would last longer if you had the window open ALL the time.

Just keep some other windows open to keep fresh air coming in. I drive around with mine open ALL the time and Im still doing ok in school. I guess I still have all my brain cells.

Just push the little latch in till the beeping stops(may need to push it in twice?). Just be sure you unlatch it by pulling the handle before closing the glass. If you do no want to do that, you can turn the inside lights off by turning the knob that controls the brightness of the dash lights. I have it to where my inside lights never come on. I dont drive at night that much and there is no use for them to come on during the day.

1)Carbon Monoxide is odorless

2)The window struts in the closed position are not supporting any weight...in the open position they are supporting the weight of the window and any airflow pressure on the window

3)Is it really worth the "open feeling"?

4)The real danger of Carbon Monoxide happens when you are moving and a low pressure vs high pressure situation occurs...that is when the fumes will enter in larger quantities. Have you ever been in the back of a pickup truck and spit...it comes right back in and hits your friend in the eye...lol

I use to have an old malibu station wagon that I broke the back window in. I burned really ritch so I knew that I had exhaust comming in side. These thing burn to clean to realize there is something bad going to happen. I knew a guy that had a cabin cruser. He wasn't feeling well so he went and took a nap while they were under way. He didn't close the salon doors and he never woke up. You may not think its a bad idea but I bet DCX does and there probably is something in writing about it in the owners manual.

When the window is closed, the shocks have ALOT of pressure on them versus the window being open. When the window is open, the shocks are fully extended with very little weight on them.
