Post subject:  Water in cabin, help

Wife and I got into my Libby yesterday and the slush matts in the passanger foot well were loaded up with water. It had rained the night before, but we hadn't driven in the rain. Drivers-side was fine.

Any idea where this water could have come from?

Sunroof? Bad door seal?

no sunroof.

Doubt it's the door seal. I'll inspect it but I doubt it.

I am going to say your fresh air intake drain is clogged. Our van just did the same thing a few weeks ago...was stuffed full of pine needles. Im not sure about the KJ but there should be a drain somewhere on it. Pull it loose and check. Be prepared for a wet mess though.

Jeger, any idea where in the KJ that is?

Jeepster... I checked the seals. Both the roof seal and door seal are fine :(

Fresh air intake drain?

Are you talking about the drain for the evaporator? If so, that sticks out of the fire wall. Its very easy to see and is on the passenger side. Its just a rubber hose that sticks out and turns down. That should only cause a problem if the A/C is on and clogged though. :?

The fresh air intake is under the cowl, you have to remove the wipers and the plastic cowl cover. The intake will be on the passenger side, look for a raised plastic hole on the pass side and thats it.

Welcome to my nightmare. My leak is on the drivers side in the same area. Going to the dealership for the 3rd time tomorrow. The leak is coming from the door, somehow, as they put a high pressure hose to it.

Here's a link to a how-to jeepster did over on KJCountry.com for installing a cabin air filter- should point you in the right direction for finding what Jeger and tjkj2002 are talking about.

Thanks corwyyn that is exactly the area I was talking about. I wouldnt go taking anything apart until I was pretty sure I couldnt find the drain. I dont have the CRD with me so I cant look but hopefully you will be able to get to the drain without taking stuff apart. I suppose you could just stick a running hose in there and see if the water ends up in your passengers side footwell

Am I focusing on the filter that he removed or a Drain associated with the filter?

Just a thought but.......you might even want to check that pinch weld pounding that you may have done to clear the oversized tires :?: Sometimes these automakers scare me with their abbility to build a decent vehicle.I have a 97 dakota(only because it had the 318 230 horse and both rear wheels spining)2 WD pickup and I had it back 4 times for a leak on pass. side.I tore out the dash, right kick pannel and carpet so I could show them the pinch weld that they needed to seal.I layed on the floor on the inside with a maglight while someone hosed the outside down to find it.Dealers really dont like to fool with you so you may as well fix it yourself.

The drain which unfortunately I dont think is shown in his pics. I will have to take a look at the jeep tonight, it may be completely different from what I am used to, just seemed like a likely suspect.

For what its worth, my sunroof drain was clogged and water was running down the channel onto the carpet. Never saw rain at all. Never knew I had a sunroof drain.

I don't know it's still in the shop. They got some BJ's so I left it. I'll ask tomorrow when I pick it up unless someone else knows.
